    Blu-ray Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - Friendly Persuasion -- Blu-ray

Another film that I recall had the same treatment was Litvak's The Journey. First seen in 35mm color and then 35mm B&W. And yes, both B&W instances were for reissues. And I, a child, thought I was going mad...

And one of the loveliest nuns in films, along with Celeste Holm, Deborah Kerr and INGRID BERGMAN. I omitted Loretta Young from this list quite on purpose.

    Blu-ray Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - Friendly Persuasion -- Blu-ray

Wyler: 1957 Palme d'Or winner at Cannes for Friendly Persuasion. Saw this several times upon release because it was love at first sight (Samantha). After watching it in color, I even saw a 35mm black & white print! Obviously, a cost-saving measure. A film to treasure.

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - High Noon -- in 4k UHD

Isn't this fact what caused him to depart for Europe? He knew he'd never work in Hollywood again if he didn't sing, so he left.

    Blu-ray Review The Nun’s Story Blu-ray Review

Alas, it's a Fox film. The only way to see it in its OAR is via the Amazon stream. All other streaming services offer the P&S version only. The acting is superb throughout.

    RIP Roger Corman

Many of our greatest filmmakers owe a tremendous debt to him. And he did some fabulous work as well. RIP.

How's progress on this project? Can't wait to see it since I've only seen the cut version during the Paramount cycle at MoMA.

    Blu-ray Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - Philo Vance Collection - The Canary / Green / Benson Murder Case(s) -- in Blu-ray

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood for Ms. Brooks. The one she chose made all the difference: it immortalized her, though it led to what was, as you say, a rather sad existence for a mortal.

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - Dune - Part Two -- in 4k UHD

"This is the type of film, as photographed by Greig Fraser, that shines on the UHD format, making the new release a poster child that will hopefully push stranglers of the format to step up to the plate and upgrade." So, you are strongly recommending this release to stranglers? Will any come...

For the love of movies: The Past, Present, and Future of Cinema and what makes us fans

The lamented Northpark I & 2. Flawless 70mm projection. The My Fair Lady restoration played there. Spielberg also previewed his Schindler's List there. I was present with my young children, and we were left speechless. Unforgettable.

Yes, it was Simone Signoret who titled her autobiography Nostalgia Isn't What It Used to Be, a philosophy that I adhere to. It's a waste of time to wax nostalgic when there is still so much to enjoy in the present. Your reference to Bresson is a hoot!

For the love of movies: The Past, Present, and Future of Cinema and what makes us fans

My wife and I watched Oppenheimer in IMAX twice: the first, and best, experience was in the 15/70 presentation at Cinemark 17; the second was at AMC Northpark. I asked my wife which viewing experience had been the best for her, and she concurred, without prompting from me, that the Cinemark had...

One Hundred Years of Solitude (Netflix)

I wish Luis Bunuel had been able to tackle this masterpiece, one of the literary masterpieces of the past century. Because of the abundance of magic realism, this would have been up Bunuel's surrealistic alley. Can't wait to watch this, hoping they do justice to the Nobel Prize winning novel.

    Weekly RoundUp 4-30-2024

The Promised Land is a great film based on a historical fact. Shows how the political elites work against people of humble origins in spite of their military exploits. Danish film that takes place starting in 1755. Mads Mikkelsen is, as always, extraordinary. Tough film, but very rewarding.
