My dearest friend passed away 12/20/2020 from complications associated with ovarian cancer.
These two songs remind me of her.
We Have All the Time in the World / Louis Armstrong
Into the West / Annie Lenox
The Young and Prodigious T.S. Spivet -- Brilliant film!
I've a host of others I love to watch (see also: The Taking of Tiger Mountain) but Spivet is an immersive and delightful choice and haven't seen it listed above.
I love my LG OLED passive 3D set and will scan the local Craigslist for a...
Great cast. Sad story. Well told. Didn't know this was available on Blu-ray.
And classic Saul Bass opening credits. There should be an Oscar category for opening credit sequences.
I thought of the snappers as more ecological alternatives to my sea of plastic cases. As The Buggles sang years ago, we are living in The Plastic Age. My 40ish son looks at my video collections and shakes his head ...
I always wondered why the Sony/Boetticher DVD set was marketed without prominanently citing Randolph Scott's name on the very muted, somber cover. When I bought that DVD set, I had no idea who Boetticher was but did know I was looking for Scott films and chanced on that set. I wonder how many...
Wayne's THE ALAMO remains in limbo with the original large format elements fading away. As for the rest of your list, you are crowned -- make it happen.
I haven't seen a decent print of EMPIRE since its roadshow release -- most impressive on the big screen at the Hunt's Cinestage in Columbus...
It took a while but I found a 2D MOD DVD of BOUNTY HUNTER on eBay and bought it just to see this film. It's one of Scott's better films and really deserves a fresh scan of the OCN and a 3D Blu-ray release! The enjoyable THE STRANGER WORE A GUN needs similar treatment!
What does it take to...
Hello. Just tried your signature 3D reviews link and got to a page that reads :

I'd love to see a Criterion treatment of the Budd Boetticher/Randolph Scott's 7 MEN FROM NOW -- a brilliant film.
Also, a well deserved restoration and scan from the original camera negative of Truffaut's FAHRENHEIT 451. The current Blu-ray editions leave MUCH room for improvement.
NIGHT PASSAGE with James Stewart and Audie Murphy -- in Technicolor and Technirama -- would be stunning when restored and released on 4K and/or Blu-ray!!!
BEND OF THE RIVER, NAKED SPUR, and THE FAR COUNTRY would be most welcome.
CANYON PASSAGE, the 1946 Technicolor classic, is way overdue on...
My thanks to Kino for releasing this title in the US. To late for me as I had already purchased the Koch release from Germany.
In searching for Randolph Scott films on Blu-ray I was amazed to discover Germany and France release more classic American westerns on Blu-ray than the USA.
Western...
I've read that initially the actors had the other's part and both separately phoned the director asking if they could switch into the roles now on film. McCrea didn't want to break his image to be the bad guy and Scott wanted to play against type to be the villain for a change.
This is one...
Cary Grant is simply brilliant in Father Goose! THE DVD was good in its day. The previous Olive Blu-ray is quite good. This film merits a 4K + Blu-ray release! It's one fun film!
Can someone contact Universal and apprise them of this so when they finally restore and release the Blu-ray of THIS ISLAND EARTH it includes both the originally intended widescreen format and Perspecta stereophonic sound?
I just want to thank all concerned for producing such a clean image and for the fabulous #D presentation!
(May I suggest a restoration of the Randolph Scott films "The Stranger Wore a Gun"/Columbia, 1953 and "Bounty Hunter"/WB,1954.)
There are now two Blu-ray Region B releases of 'Canyon Passage' and one all region release. Any comparison reviews?
The DVDBeaver review of the new Panamint release has screen captures that look rather dark and drab compared to the earlier Universal DVD release.
The earlier Koch Blu-ray...
I'm wondering how this new issue compares with the earlier Koch release.
Here's one review of the Panmint release from the Beaver website. The screen captures there of the Panamint release alarm me as they appear rather dark and dingy compared to the earlier DVD release.
I'm heartened by...
Everything I've read about the attempts to preserve The Alamo are disheartening.
I'm not acquainted with the nature or degree of the separation masters' focus issues but am wondering if there's a software solution to cancel the softness. Back in film days the application of an unsharp mask...
Forgive me for going off on a tangent. It's great to remember John Wayne's "The Alamo" but could someone please restore Budd Boetticher's "7 Men from Now" starring Randolph Scott in what is arguably his finest film? Apparently Batjac had some restoration work done of the Warner Brothers 1956...
Western Union is available on a Koch Media Western Legenden Blu-ray and looks great! While labeled Region B it plays flawlessly on my Sony Region A player. I ordered from Amazon Germany but it is available via Amazon US.
TCM's DVD set of the "Randolph Scott Western Collection" seems to go in and out of print with some regularity. It became availble a few weeks ago -- again. This time I was early enough to buy a copy -- with 20% off the sale price and free shipping! So patience and luck pay off once in a long...
