International The Legality Of Importing Other-Region Movies

I thought the reason we couldn't mention region coding on the Kino Lorber thread was because they could only get the Region A rights and didn't want the thread full of Europeans moaning about not being able to watch the movies.

Kino Lorber Studio Classics - First Time on Blu-ray

Will the titles be Region A locked or do the rest of us get an invite to the party? ;)

The Great Train Robbery (1978) (Blu-ray) Available for Preorder

I thought Sutherland was doing an Irish accent in First Great Train Robbery.

Any Chance Of: The Flash Gordon Serials?

Does anybody know if there are plans for the restoration and release of the Flash Gordon or Buck Rogers serials on Blu-ray? There are currently reasonable, but by no means top quality, DVD editions of the serials and more gawdawful PD releases than you can stick a shake at. Can anybody tell me...

1966 Batman DVD Coming! See Post 649

Catwoman. Splendid ladies, all of them, but Julie Newmar is the clear winner. Maybe you get a fresh Catwoman for each of her nine lives. If Julie Newmar's the first, Lee Meriwether the second, Eartha Kitt the third, Michelle Pfeiffer #4, Halle Berry #5 and Anne Hathaway the sixth. That means...

Empire 1 Cinema Leicester Square London

FFS! I thought the days of carving up proper theatres into multiscreens was over. They're always a mess, waste capacity and are an inevitable sign of decline and closure. Bloody disgusting.

To All Studios: Stop Window-Boxing Credits!

In all fairness, a lot of consumers aren't familiar with the settings of their displays. Only last week, I had to help my neighbour switch off the Trumotion "feature" on his plasma as it was causing all kinds of weird motion artifacts. I've seen loads of flat screens displaying a stretched 4:3...

    Color Restoration Issues

I think it's another issue where context is everything. You have a still image with a choice of colour palettes and any of them could be the right one. In the context of the movie, I'd expect it would be easier to judge the correct look.

GWTW and Wizard of OZ again in 2013

Possibly, but you're not going to get the same blaze of publicity for the home release of OTGAP as the theatrical release. The home market is still very much an afterthought for the industry (if only by force of habit) - the advertising bucks all go to the theatrical run. Hopefully this shows WB...

GWTW and Wizard of OZ again in 2013

I'm surprised Warner Bros didn't have some high profile re-release campaign for Oz in the light of Disney's effort (Accept No Substitutes...)

    A Few Words About A few words about...™ Skyfall -- in Blu-ray

Strictly speaking Moonraker is full of opticals - credited to Robin Browne, Bill Hansard and Louis Lapeyre among others. Derek Meddings and his team achieved an astounding amount of work without benefit of ILM-style composite work, simply by winding back and multiple exposure, but the movie does...

    3D 3D glasses

As a wearer of spectacles, I managed to source a couple of pairs of reasonably priced (under £5) clip on 3D lenses that work brilliantly with my 42" LG LCD. I compared active and passive systems when I was getting the set and personally found that the passive system (while compromising vertical...

A Few Words About A few words about...™ Dick Tracy -- in Blu-ray

From Wikipedia: Maybe the effect he was trying to achieve was more of a comic-book style? Bleach bypass would give you basically a black and white movie with a colour overlay. If the colours were oversaturated, that would make the effect even more pronounced.

A Few Words About A few words about...™ The Lord of the Rings Trilogy - Extended Edition -- in Blu-ray

I don't think Peter Jackson shares George's professional disregard for his actors. After putting Christopher Lee's nose out of joint leaving Saruman out of ROTK's Theatrical Cut, I can't see him slighting Ian Holm by substituting him in the Rings pictures. Give the man some credit.

Will Blu-Ray support UltraHD? Would you buy a UltraHD TV and a new Blu-Ray player?

I thought all the major Japanese electronic manufacturers were skipping 4K for displays and going straight to 8K.

    3-strip Technicolor, year by year

Talk of Pollyanna gets me reminiscing about RAH's original articles for The Digital Bits - "Yellow Layer Failure". Pollyanna was shot on Eastman 5248 and as a result suffers from YLF, meaning blacks are blues, skies are green and everybody has a lobster complexion. To compound problems there...
