Pre-Order The Tin Star (1957) (Blu-ray) Available for Preorder

Just asking because I am interested not because I would not buy. There are some caps over at DVDbeaver by the way and they look outstanding. Very fine and natural detail, simply stunning!

Pre-Order The Tin Star (1957) (Blu-ray) Available for Preorder

There actually is an Australian release but probably from an older master: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=321191 We never got anything good on disc for The Tin Star so this Blu-ray is a welcome sight. I just would like to see a bit more information about the digital assets used to...

    Restored "The Searchers" in 70mm

I fully agree with that point and posted as much earlier. From what I know there is no film-out of Vertigo and I was actually watching a print from the 90s re-release. Back then 70mm was still state of the art and at that point the best option. Today not so much any more and I would have...

Very nice but those 70mm prints weren't too shabby either.

    Restored "The Searchers" in 70mm

Was that Williamsburg: The Story of a Patriot? I know a cinema technician who considered getting a 35/8 projector for many years but he could not find anything to use it with as even faded 35/8 prints are extremely rare and so he dropped the idea.

    Restored "The Searchers" in 70mm

Once it is digital a movie may as well stay that way but then it is nice to get some 70mm prints from time to time that are not from Lawrence or 2001! 35/8 is kind of cool but not sure where to find the movie theater with a projector to screen it for a larger audience.

Press Release Criterion Press Release: Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid (1973) (4k UHD Combo) (Blu-ray)

First off, this is great news and a must buy for me. I am very fond of Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid despite its flaws. I have been waiting for it even longer than for a good version of The Wild Bunch as I was sure we would get that anyhow but I was not sure about Pat Garret with its many...

Press Release Warner Archive Collection Press Release: Devil's Doorway (1950) (Blu-ray)

Lack of cleanup was never really an issue for me with the Warner Archive releases but a DVD is still a DVD and I am very glad that we will now be getting a Blu-ray from a new 4k scan.

Sirk's IMITATION OF LIFE - 4k on blu ray soon?

I long stopped wondering what gets released and what not especially with Kino who seem to release a really wide range of movies that not many would have expected on UHD.

Sirk's IMITATION OF LIFE - 4k on blu ray soon?

There are other movies where a release may be less probable that get threads on here so don't be sorry. Here is the 4K DCP so it would not be too much to expect a 4K release: https://www.parkcircus.com/film/118455-Imitation-of-Life Looking at my Blu-ray I would say that Imitation of Life is...

Press Release Warner Archive Collection Press Release: Devil's Doorway (1950) (Blu-ray)

I think the DVD was decent by DVD standards but I thought the movie deserved a Blu-ray. Warner went the extra mile with a 4K scan so this will be as good as it gets and I would not be worried at all.

Press Release Warner Archive Collection Press Release: Devil's Doorway (1950) (Blu-ray)

Fantastic! This will finally replace the Warner Archive DVD that I have never watched as after sampling it I thought the movie deserved better. It will be magnificent to watch this on Blu-ray as my first time viewing...

UHD Custom Cover UPDATE: DUNE: PART ONE:& PART TWO PROBABLY NOT TO HAVE VARIABLE IMAX ASPECT RATIO

Thanks, being a disc man I did not know that! I may check the digital copy to see if it is just matted down top and bottom or if adjustments were made to get better framing for the taller parts.

UHD Custom Cover UPDATE: DUNE: PART ONE:& PART TWO PROBABLY NOT TO HAVE VARIABLE IMAX ASPECT RATIO

Oh yes and I am quite happy with it and also his aspect ratio decision seeing that for once it went my way. Obviously we have to accept all of these decisions but we are allowed to have a different opinion on how certain things could be handled, looks like it is the same for you :)

Biblical-Roman-Egyptian epics not yet on Blu-ray

This is quite horrible - what were they thinking? Will we get a version without the "improvements"?

UHD Custom Cover UPDATE: DUNE: PART ONE:& PART TWO PROBABLY NOT TO HAVE VARIABLE IMAX ASPECT RATIO

You get the taller pictures / changing aspect ratios much more often than I am getting a constant picture so you are better off than me ;) The solution really would be to have both versions for every movie that has them. For example Tenet was shot in 65mm 5-perf and Imax but there is a director...

UHD Custom Cover UPDATE: DUNE: PART ONE:& PART TWO PROBABLY NOT TO HAVE VARIABLE IMAX ASPECT RATIO

The 1.9 scenes were specifically composed for Imax theaters and that is where we can see them. In my home theater I do not want that and I am happy to get scope. Personally I would go with a director approved fixed aspect ratio version every time but it is not like I can get them for most of...

A Few Words About A few words about...™ It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World -- in Blu-ray

In the absence of ultrawide screens IAMMMMW should play nicely on very big scope screens with proper vertical masking and curtains that actually close all the way down to get a proper roadshow experience. Not sure where these could be found, they seem to have become extremely rare.

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - True Lies -- in 4k UHD

Your input is appreciated Colin and in any case we have now seen everything that had to be said - and a lot more - in this thread. I am bowing out too, at least until I get a chance to check out True Lies when it gets released over here.

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - True Lies -- in 4k UHD

Very true! I have no interest in telling other people or myself which movie deserves to be treated with respect for their original look and which ones can be treated as a digital playground because they are either not worthy or because their director happens to have other ideas how they should...

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - True Lies -- in 4k UHD

Pretty sure that if Cameron had wanted to use 70mm he would have made it possible, but he just did not see it as a desirable option. And by the time Titanic was made 70mm cameras already had come down in size a lot, those were not the same cameras that were used for Ben-Hur or Lawrence of Arabia.

Negative cleaning sounds interesting, did you get an idea how much the negative was used and how often it was cleaned during the period of the initial release? Yes they seem to have been very popular and obviously suited quite well for Cinerama theaters but it is rather unpleasant to see them...

Some good reading about True Lies, it's cinematography and what James Cameron thought about the film prints at the time. Looked like he was quite happy with it back then: https://theasc.com/articles/true-lies-tests-cinemas-limits Here is the sequence about the prints: Both Cameron and...

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - True Lies -- in 4k UHD

Hard to have a good debate with people from both sides putting words in other people's mouth and/or telling them what they really want / mean. While this can happen in a debate the extent to which we see it here is excessive and I would suggest for certain members to step back, calm down a bit...

Would you happen to know how many non-rectified prints were struck? Over here in Europe it seems that the 5 Cinerama movies shot in UP70 are only available in either flat prints with cropped sides or in rectified prints. Not very good choices when watching them on screens without a very deep curve.

I am not a big fan of Titanic but I would love to rewatch True Lies on film and of course preferably the 70mm Blow-Up.
