"Any idea what 'M' is up to?"
"M" who,and where did he disappear to ? :)
Parker, reports on that vinyl to digital player have not been stellar to date. When testing was done comparing the original, the differences were pronounced.
I ended up building two simple dipole subs using the 12" drivers(front and sidewalls)
I agree about the MMGC.After many hours of fiddling with it,i finally just used an EQ on the center. Its reasonable now,but I'm looking at the CC3 :)
Congrats Gasdoc on the sub.
One thing to keep in mind when using the MMG's.Although they are rated down to 50 hz,they start to fall off at about 80 hz.
To have a balanced sound(highs, mids and bass),a sub is required to bring out their best qualities. :)
Having your front three speakers match is very important. Getting a center from the same model product line as your left and right is the correct choice. It is possible to get a center from another brand to match, but it is difficult to do,and many "experts" for go attempting it.
After 3 days listening to music and HT with the tweeters out,I've come to a conclusion.
The loss of crystal clear highs, and muddied midrange was not worth the wider sound stage.
Imaging also seemed to suffer, although to a lesser degree then the treble.
So,I'm back to...
Here I was, very happy with my Maggie HT,and I had to go read a thread over at the MUG site.
Note to self:dont read another Maggie tweak thread.(ya thats gonna work) :)
I followed the tweeters in or out thread until it peaked my interest.I've always run my Maggies ,tweeters in,7 feet...
"Achieving such should allow any FR corrections applied via EQ (assumed in the study) to have the same benefit over a number of seats, which is rarely the case with eq (correcting for the "sweet spot" can make things much worse just one seat over)." Agreed. Before my current subwoofer,I ran...
While I understand your feelings about having Maggies for music only,I must disagree.
My full Maggie HT has brought my HT experience to a new level of reality.I dont just watch movies,I'm "in" the movie.
Was it easy to reach this level? Not by a long shot.I've gone through 5...
As to the self made wood stands. If you look in the first 3 or 4 pages of this thread, you'll see pictures of the wood stands I made.Almost the same as the stands on the MUG site, but a little larger and more movable.
As for the amps.I run my 3.6's on a crown xls 402b amp.I've done the fan...
"I have read all your pages here (every one)"
You sir,are a braver man then I(and I've written my fair share of this thread). :)
I've heard an ML movie demo ,and was impressed. Not enough to purchase, but I can see the allure.
Maggies,do some things very very well.Others less so,and...
Congrats and glad you two are happy with your Maggies. As "Z" said, they get even better as time goes on.
if you can find it,try an old "blood sweat and tears" cd.Rock mixed with jazz.horns, flutes, piano, drums and vocals. It will make your Maggies disappear. :)
Wow, Thats like comparing apples and oranges. Both speakers have their strong points ,but are very different. Maggies have an "airy" quality that a box type speaker cant match. Athena's are much more dynamic in the mid range then planar's. Thats just the start of the differences.Setup...
Congrats guys on receiving your new toys.
Once they break in(60 hours or so),there are lots of things to play with.
Toe in(2 degrees can make a huge difference in their sound),tweeters in or out,and raising them up and into a vertical position.
Experimenting with Maggies is a very fun...
Sorry I've been AFK,but building a new computer has put me off line and online at odd times.
When I first purchased my MMG's,I was powering them with an Outlaw 7100 amp(165 WPC @ 4ohms).I use my Maggies in my HT(full Maggie HT),and for music. While it sounded great with...
Good morning Lotia,
I think Alan P is the closest to you.Z and Dean are in Florida,I'm in Cali.
Although Maggies dont have the dynamics of a box speaker in the midrange, when powered properly(that is the key),they do have some dynamics.Setup correctly,it really becomes a non issue.
As a side note,
I invited one of the local Avs forum speaker guru's(his opinion is well respected on the forum) over to my place to listen to my Maggies.Yesterday,he took me up on my offer and stopped by.
He had heard Maggies before in a show room only ,and wasnt a Maggie fan by any means...
Do a search over on AVS forum, There have been a couple of reviews by current owners who seemed pleased with their purchase. The basic outcome of the reviews was that the Acoustech's were excellent at their pricepoint for small to medium rooms. In larger rooms, were higher volume was...
