WHV Announcement: Tom & Jerry Golden Collection Volume Two (Blu-ray) (DVD)

I'm of the opinion that a lot of "political correctness gone mad" stuff is actually more "terrified someone might sue". But I've never heard of anyone suing Warners over Tom and Jerry cartoons.

    Aspect Ratio Documentation

UK disc is 1.85:1 (or 1.66:1, I forget which!) and looks fine. I wish Criterion has respected the ratio of Grip Of The Strangler the way they respected On The Waterfront...

Even Goddard had gone widescreen by the late 60s. Les Diaboliques and Mon Oncle are two 50s French films that are meant to be widescreen - all that dead space is a giveaway!

I'd also reccomend making the packaging more subtle - perhaps some sort of abstract art - so it looks less child friendly.

    A Few Words About A few words about...™ Vertigo -- in Blu-ray

Given the box set seems to be 50 % good transfers and 50 % lousy transfers, I'm hoping they get re-released on their own. The UK set is a lot cheaper but Vertigo doesn't have the mono track grrr!

    Twilight Time announces Blu-ray releases March/April 2013

Although I was lucky to get Christine when I did, I wouldn't have been disapointed if I missed out as the DVD is avaliable. Hence I'm not too bothered I missed out on Fright Night. But I do think Twilight Time needs to grown a backbone or stop being smug - whichever one they're at. And I resent...

WHV Press Release: Enter The Dragon 40th Anniversary UCE Giftset (Blu-ray)

Warrior's Journey is very outdated HD wise. It's 4:3, the film clips are 2:35:1 non-anamorphic widescreen and PAL-NTSC to boot!

WHV Press Release: Enter The Dragon 40th Anniversary UCE Giftset (Blu-ray)

Warners better include the theatrical version. The film stops cold dead on the DVDs with the terrible redubbing of Bruce Lee for the extra scene.

An open letter to Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment

It's funny how SotS has so much controversey, yet Peter Pan's depiction of Native Americans seems to get by ok.

A Few Words About A few words about...™ A Nightmare on Elm Street Collection -- in Blu-ray

At least one transfer, Part 4 I think, has been criticised for being far too dark. A shame the uncut versions of Part 1 and 5 are still unavaliable on digital media.

A Few Words About A few words about...™ The Thief of Bagdad (1924) -- in Blu-ray

I must say Kino's Birth of a Nation, which is progressive, looks rather herky-jerky in motion.

Raymond Roheuer was said to tamper with the credits for the films.

HAMMER FILM BLU-RAYS IN THE U.K. ... getting closer to the Holy Grail (DRACULA, 1958)...

The old Warner dvd was rubbish - over blown contrast and horribly framed. It's also the cause of many ignorant or confused folk screaming CROPPED!!! everytime a Hammer film get's released in 1.85:1.

A Few Words About A few words about...™ The Thief of Bagdad (1924) -- in Blu-ray

I seem to recall the Rohauer BIRTH OF A NATION released by Thames on vhs being longer (ie. more footage) then the version released on Blu-ray by Kino - and it had a version of the original score, whilst Kino has a new one from Mont Alto. So there it'd be interesting to see another version.

Austin Powers kind of crushed that one into the ground...literally!

    Twilight Time announces Blu-ray releases March/April 2013

I enjoy the Chaney Phantom and a lot of modern horrors. Heck, if Christine wasn't limited edition, it'd take 3000 years for me to get round to buying it!

    Twilight Time announces Blu-ray releases March/April 2013

That's only 3 movies out of what, 30? It's like Criterion releasing Armageddon, or, to quote David Sheperd "Phantom of the Opera pays for a million sins."

    Twilight Time announces Blu-ray releases March/April 2013

Twilight Time hasn't released a single slasher film

I think had TT not come along, we'd be seeing these from Image or Mill Creek at bargain prices.

    Twilight Time announces Blu-ray releases March/April 2013

I don't get why they go for so much. I'd rather stick with Fright Night on a 10 bucks DVD then fork $50 + for a blu ray.

Yeah I got miffed when I went to order Christine at that. Plus they were limiting Christine to 10 per customer!!! Some of TT's stuff can be had though Amazon.uk from screen archives so at least there they would have to respect amazon.marketplace customer service.

I don't think it's the best Bond but it's pretty damn up there with the greats.

HAMMER FILM BLU-RAYS IN THE U.K. ... getting closer to the Holy Grail (DRACULA, 1958)...

I think the new transfer looks nice in its own way, even if it's not accurate. It certainly looks better then the horrid 2002 dvd. Could such a transfer be corrected with the warm setting on one's monitor? Please don't yell at me, anyone!

To be honest, never noticed that one...and it's my favorite film! It'll probably stick out now lol

A Few Words About A few words about...™ Beauty and the Beast 3D -- in Blu-ray

Yes, that's what came to mind. The version on the 2002 dvd DOES preserve that shot, though it has replaced backgrounds for later scenes.

A Few Words About A few words about...™ The Birth of a Nation -- in Blu-ray

One change that was made very early into the film's original run was the title. It premiered as The Clansman. Some contempoary reviews suggest there was an ending where the blacks go home to Libyia - I have no idea if this was inferred, shot or just an intertitle. According to Kevin Brownlow...
