Panasonic Demonstrates new Viera Connect Application Social TV

For those of us who have a home theater set up, we will definitely want to route the sound from the TV to our AV receiver. Since the internet signal is passing directly to the TV, I send the dignal from my Viera plasma to my AV receiver using the optical digital out jack on the back of the TV...

    24: Season Seven

Is it at all possible that Tony is actually good and that he killed Moss because he knew that Moss was a secret traitor? And, that Tony has had to keep quiet on this for some reason to be revealed next week?

What causes pixaliation on an HD set???

Could also be signal strength.I had lots of pixilation problems when watching hi-def programs via cable until the cableco improved the strength of my cable signal by replacing the outdoor cable and adding an amplifer.

    Can plasma's be repaired?

I have a 4 year-old Pioneer plasma that one day made an audible "pop" and the display will no longer light up at all. It's been sitting unused for months now as I replaced it with a new one. How likely is it that a plasma can be repaired for a reasonable charge? (What kills me is that I...

    HDMI switching - problems

Thanks, everyone. Guess I'll add some digital/optical cables for the DVD and cable box. I might even connect the HDMI cables directly to the TV now, seeing as their is no real advantage to connecting them to the receiver. As a caveat to potential A/V receiver buyers - make sure you know if...

    HDMI switching - problems

Helped my son hook up a cheap A/V receiver (Sony STRDG510). Although I've hooked up many times with component cables this was my first foray in HDMI. We have run the HD cable box and the DVD player via HDMI to the receiver and then one HDMI cable from the receiver HDMI out to the plasma TV. Also...

    Speaker Blowout Question

My understanding is that speakers are most readily damaged by driving an amplifier into "clipping", which means turning the volume up so high that the amp goes into severe distortion. The reason you are less likely to blow your speakers is because a higher powered amp is less likely to be...

    UPS only for minor outages

I've read a lot of threads on UPS's, but none seem to address my simple need: We seem to get a 10-second power outage every week or so. This throws off my Harmony remote as some devices have powered down that it thinks are on. This drives my wife crazy as she can't/won't understand how to get...

    making inwalls better/more sound proof?

I think you will get less bass response. The manufacturer is assuming that there is a large wall cavity and has taken this into account. You will in effect reduce the size of the "box" that the speakers are in therefore less bass.

    Best/favorite guitar solo?

Mountain - Theme for An Imaginary Western - both solos by Leslie West are great. Incredibly emotional solos.

    New home surround sound install

If the fireplace is gas and if there is a substantial mantle and if the screen is at least a couple of inches above the mantle I think you will be fine as far as heat problems go.

Queen overtake the Beatles as most successful albums act in UK history

This is very interesting to me as I've often said that Queen were "the new Beatles" for me. A wide variety of song styles, high quality control of released songs and very little self-plagiarizing is what they have in common.

    Plasma Newbie

Another thing to help avoid burn-in is to use the "stretch" mode on 4:3 material. Not for purists, but it does fill out the screen by progressively stretching the edges of the screen to make it look like 16:9.

Anyone checked out Paul Anka's Rock Swings?

It's a lot of fun to listen to - he plays it straight, not campy. the arrangements are quite good.

    Rakhmaninov’s Symphony No.2 question

I have a neat little story to tell re: Rachmaninoff. Many years ago (O.K. decades ago) I went to a record store and bought the then new 1st Eric Carmen album (former leader of the rock band "Raspberries"). I noticed an in-store display of clasical albums entitled "______'s Greatest Hits". On a...

    In defence of Multi-channel mixes

"we know we hear in stereo (w/ 2 ears)" I would challenge that statement. It's not as simple as two stereo speakers running straight into our ears. Our ears don't hear in stereo; our ears hear a 360-degree space all around us. Multi-channel should in theory add to our ability to come...

How many people bought service plans?

"If you're spending $1,500 on a TV and the ESP is $300, tell the salesman you'll take the TV for $1,200 and he can add the warranty for $300. I've done this on three seperate occasions, and the salesman eats it up every time. They get commission on the warranty , and you get piece of mind for...

    Need help connecting new TV

You only make one connection between the media box and the plasma with the special cable that is provided. Everything else connects to the media box. Of course, some people connect everything to their home Theater receiver and then just a few connections to the media box.

QUEEN to tour in 2005 - official news

I agree that the Thin Lizzy tour was great. Unfortunately for me, I also had tickets to two earlier tours, "Queen II" and "Sheer Heart Attack" era, that were both cancelled in Toronto - one time 'cause Freddie had throat problems and once whan Brian had hepatitis (I think). Best older live...

    American Idol Season 4

I think Carrie or Vonzell should win if singing is the standard. I'd give the nod to Vonzell because of her stronger stage presence. Carrie looks good, but her movements are rather lame and deliberate.

    American Idol Season 4

How silly of Lindsey to say "I heard this great Eddie Floyd song - Knock on Wood" and then proceed to perform an exact cover of the disco version by Amii Stewart. 60's? Right!

    2005 Grammy Discussion Thread

C'mon, the Across The Universe performance was pretty bad! I think the singers couldn't hear themselves - Norah Jones couln't even find the key and Stevie Wonder starting humming to try and find his way. Brian Wilson was surprisingly strong.

Putting my HT gear in another room....

I have done the same thing using an IR sensor and Xantech IR repeaters. Works great. I did have to buy an expensive sensor, though, as the cheap ones got intereference from my plasma. Have a look here: www.xantech.com
