Bluray player problems - replacement recommendations?

My 4? year old Sony BDP-S550 has started having problems with freezing up during playback. Sometimes I can skip to the next chapter, other times not. Sometimes the timer keeps going and it will eventually resume playing, but other times my only option is to eject the disc and chapter skip to...

    What movie is this?

Yes! A gold star for Walter!! You have alleviated my ongoing self-torment! And the title refers to the trap door used to access the racquetball court.

    What movie is this?

While watching Inception, the scene in Cobb's home of the hallway lined with photos, I was reminded of a similar scene in another movie, but for the life of me, can't remember the name of it. I recall the hallway lined with photos, I think of the children. I recall an auto accident that happened...

    Speaker upgrade: sides or rears?

Thanks for the advice, Jim & Al. I was assuming for 5.1 presentations that the sides and the rears get the same sounds -- is that correct? That's why I wasn't sure which would be more advantageous.

    Speaker upgrade: sides or rears?

After upgrading from a 5.1 to a 7.1 system, and upgrading the front l/r speakers, I now have the opportunity to upgrade either the sides or the rears, but not both. Given that that the sides are rears are currently at about the same level of mediocrity, and realizing that there will be sonic...

Track the Films You Watch (2009)

Wow! 4+ minute page load time to open the first page of this thread to update my list. And the icing on the cake is that all my HTF subscriptions are gone. I think I'm done here... And to stay on topic, we saw Gone Baby Gone last evening -- really enjoyed it. I didn't know anything about it...

Opinion: The demise of satellite radio

I've always thought they should at least split it out into separate stations based on general eras/timeframes. I can only handle so much baroque and pre-baroque music before my head explodes. On the other hand, they hardly seem to care enough to provide one classical station, much less 5+.

Opinion: The demise of satellite radio

Funny you should mention her. I believe she's the one that when she started talking, I said to my SO "If they're paying her anything, she's overpaid"

Opinion: The demise of satellite radio

My SO has XM/Sirius in his car which we drive on weekends. I've mentioned before how I have little use for it since their classical selection has gone from bad to worse. And while there may be no commercials, it seems the amount of mind-numbing idiotic chatter has more than compensated. For...

    Chuck season 2

Seems to me that crap shows tend to get renewed for decades, while quality programming never attracts an audience and is fortunate to last an entire season.

    Fringe - By J.J. Abrams

I dumped it from my DVR in a fit of rage when I saw Adam Lambert on American Crapfest at the 5 minute mark (if I wanted to listen to screeching and wailing, I'd step on my cat's tail). Actually the sight of Adam Lambert made me want to throw the DVR out into the street, and rip my head from my...

    Fringe - By J.J. Abrams

It aired from 8:10 to 9:10, my DVR recorded 8:00 to 9:00. Not much point watching without the last 10 minutes. I may resort to watching it on the website, but I'm afraid it won't be quite the same on a little 15 inch screen with tinny speakers...

    Fringe - By J.J. Abrams

So what the hell is wrong with the fricking idiots at Fox that they can't finish American Crapfest on time. I mean it's not like they have too much quality music to cram into an hour! I had really been looking forward to the resumption of Fringe, but missing an episode pretty much blows the rest...

    Mamma Mia BD Problems?

A friend asked me if I had read of any problems with the Mamma Mia BD. He's tried three different discs and they've all been unreadable in his Sony BDP-S500. I did some searching but couldn't find any reports (admittedly my searching might be a bit sub-par as I haven't had my full quota of...

This has always been one of my favorites. I'm not a big Jeff Goldblum fan, but I love this movie in spite of him. I think it's a very well-made movie. The gradual descent into hell draws me in and makes it more real. And I don't thing the score could have been any better. My SO can't tolerate...

What are you listening to right now?

While listening to the closing movement of the Brahms Violin Concerto over the closing credits of "There Will Be Blood" last night, I was thinking to myself "This sounds like that awful woman violinist I hate so much, now what is her name?" And sure enough, later in the credits, there was her...

Tx for the info. I'll have to check it out when it comes to BD. I didn't enjoy Zodiac as much as some of Fincher's other films, but I still gave it 4 stars (out of 5).
