Someone on a certain large other forum even posted a cover image, not sure where he got it. Usually these leaks are spot on, though there have been some that never came out like The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
The Daniel Craig movies are coming in a set, according to some early retail leaks posted elsewhere. Actor sets seems a good way to do these, hope Brosnan follows soon after.
The bummer is digital exclusives will get more and more common. That recent Melissa McCarthy drama only came to disc on DVD for heaven's sake, yet it's streaming in 4k HDR. Obviously that's a movie most wouldn't buy, which is why it happened, but that kind of thing is gonna get more and more...
It's obviously headed toward a niche market like the laserdisc days, but that's not the same as "out." And two companies deciding to focus on phones while 6 or more still make players isn't saying anything against that. No offense intended, but people are too dramatic and quick to call something...
I found this very fun and enjoyable personally, and the visual style is first rate. The script dialog is the movie's main weakness, but everything else is much better than reviews imply if you ask me. I'm not someone who hates remakes on spec though, so... *shrug*
I guess people are buying these old masters with a couple new supplements and a slipcover, but I'm not one of of them. If they subsidize the remasters Shout sometimes do though, I'm happy they exist.
It's one of those times where I think the disc looks exactly like it should, and fully matches the intent, but man I dislike how it looks anyway. If it was a noir detective movie or something it would work fine, but it's basically an 80's feeling blockbuster and the look just doesn't suit it at...
This is a bummer but I'm not as freaked out by it as some. They didn't do Dolby Vision, and they have a very mass-market focus. This is yet another sign discs are quickly becoming niche, and that we're heading to a laserdisc style future alongside the mainstream streaming platforms, but I don't...
Once Disney takes over I'd guess their same strategy of only remastering their huge classics will take over as well. Planet of the Apes still qualifies though, so hopefully we still see it someday.
No, nothing is required to include a code. Lots of releases don't have codes. Also usually when a label like Kino, Shout or Arrow do a remaster its exclusive to that disc and won't be on digital at all.
I believe the Blu-rays have the 4k masters of the Connery and Lazenby movies and a couple Moore movies, but the rest are all older masters. Until Casino Royale anyway, everything after that would be the same DIs. Which Moore movies are the 4k remasters... I know Spy Who Loved Me is, but not sure...
To keep the conversation focused on Bond in 4k I will say that Goldeneye remaster is truly stunning. Despite my issues with the sound quality it makes me want to buy more of them, at least the ones not from 4k masters on Blu-ray (like Moonraker and up I think?). Hopefully they come to disc...
No, I have a high-end LCD because I play games and can't risk burn-in. The compression issues weren't there on Goldeneye, to be clear (with video anyway). The grain could get a little noisy there and I'm sure it looks a little softer than a 4k disc would, but there were no obvious artifacts. It...
Some are raving about the Apple TV 4k quality but I've tried it myself and preferred the Blu-ray. Mostly because of sound quality and artifacts in the black areas of the screen. I got the box in large part for the Bond movies (and Goldeneye's new master really is stunning), but once I compared...
This has some sections that don't quite look as good as the rest. I assume that's the condition of the elements or something, I'm not an expert. It all looks good though and sometimes it looks amazing.
I think he has particular visuals he enjoys and he does kind of repeat them, yes. However he does it across different genres, so it doesn't bother me as much as it does you.
I agree in spirit, but Bond is kind of a weird case because of MGM's status. Their lack of money and reliance on other studios for distribution makes it a trickier thing than other catalog releases. I mean we just saw Pet Sematary announced for UHD, so I don't think catalog titles are an issue...
I enjoy The Seven-Ups quite a bit. Not some amazing movie, sure, but Schneider adds a lot of gravitas and it moves along at a nice pace. For 70's crime/neo-noir fans like myself it's very worth getting, especially at TT's sale prices.
New Centurions I actually got from Indicator in the UK...
Opinions differ on the quality of iTunes video and audio, but I think we all agree that we hope these 4k remasters get an HDR pass and end up on disc in the future. Discs will get more and more niche over time, but the market for Bond on disc will be there for many years. Hopefully MGM gets its...
No reason to think the old master color was accurate. A lot of old masters had a red/magenta push. People think things have been "teal'd" when they get closer to their actual color, but they haven't. Terminator and Aliens are good examples where everyone thought they were revisionist and then...
Fair enough you disagree, fair enough I disagree. Your insanely fast internet might be a factor, very few people have anything close to that. However I'd assume Apple can only send so much data, so it could just all come down to eyesight, equipment, seating distance, taste, etc. I use studio...
Maybe iTunes has some special sauce but I've compared a lot of Vudu stuff to discs and discs win overwhelmingly every time. Not sure I've compared a 4k stream of a 4k master as someone mentioned, I'll do that soon, but I've compared a lot of stuff and the Vudu stream always looks more "fuzzy"...
That's true, the ones I compared are 2k DIs. I'll have to see if I own something with a 4k master on Vudu in 4k and compare that. Maybe Men in Black?
That's not true at all, it's all about field of view (viewing distance). I sit at a 40 degree field of view from that size a TV and I can assure...
I've done a lot of comparisons of discs and streaming and have found discs offer a very noticeable improvement in "crispness" thanks to the higher bitrate and such. Also you'd be surprised at the difference in audio, disc audio is MUCH more dynamic and robust thanks to (usually now-a-days) being...
Like I said above, I really don't think it's gonna happen that fast. Especially not for such mainstream and "older guy" appealing stuff as Bond. So I really wouldn't worry about that, it all just comes down to when MGM gets their stuff together.
