Pioneer vs. Denon receiver choose, looking for advice on choice

Yes, someone pointed that out to me and it ultimately led to me ordering one as well. $120-150 savings over the Denon option was too good to let go. Hopefully it all works out for me!

Pioneer vs. Denon receiver choose, looking for advice on choice

While there are some great deals on prior gen models, I definitly want something with HDMI 1.4a and network support as well as AIrPlay, so that pretty much forces me into something new. I've seen numerous mentions of Vann's 20% off on receiver, simply call in and order and from what i can see...

Pioneer vs. Denon receiver choose, looking for advice on choice

If you compared the Denon 2312 vs the Pioneer 1121, does your opinion change? SInce you mention a Wii and older DVD player, it seems like you may be taking into effect hte video scaler that the Pioneer 1121 has vs. the lack of one in the Denon 2112? I would be willing to go up to the price...

Pioneer vs. Denon receiver choose, looking for advice on choice

I'll preface this by saying I've owned two receivers in my lifetime, a Denon AVR-2800 which I had for 10 years. Ran cool, never a single problem. Highly outdated, and thus replaced about 2 years ago with an Onkyo TX-SR806. Got it for a great price. Lots of features, runs really hot. Began to...

Glossy vs. matte screen for my environment

The samsung LN52A630 (matte) has a 40:000:1 contrast ratio and the LN52A650 (glossy) has a 50:000:1 contrast ratio. The panels are identical, the contrast ratio difference is due to the matte vs. glossy. I looked into the 7 series, same exact panel/glossy screen as the A650 but with more gadgets...

Glossy vs. matte screen for my environment

I'm trying to determine if I'm going to be better off one way or another when it comes to glossy screen vs. matte screen for my room. The sliding glass door is on a patio which has an overhang. If you look out the door from within the room, you are looking south. The door is on the...

    RF Modulator question

So it's basically a coaxial(wire) based IR extender. That could definitely be useful in this particular setup, as I may have a need for IR extender because the source components are down low and not in direct line of sight. However, this does not eliminate the need to chnage the channel # on...

    RF Modulator question

Thanks. I'm trying to find an RF Modulator that is also a video input switcher. I'd liek to feed 2 sources into the modulator and have it output to the same channel on the TV (so the TV does not need to be adjusted). I'd also like the Modulator/Switcher itself to be IR controlled, so someone...

    RF Modulator question

I am hooking up some equipment for a friend of a friend in their kitchen. The kitchen was remodelled and there is a TV in a center island on a lift. The source components are across the kitchen in another area. For some reason, the only connection between the center island TV and the source...

Rambo Trilogy DTS track not working properly

Update. Watched all 3 movies with DTS tracks yesterday. Did some close listening to my rear speakers. The rear channels (as well as front L/R and sub) were working, but I noticed that volumes from those increased through each disc. In Rambo I, effects were barely audible in rear...

Rambo Trilogy DTS track not working properly

Hope this is the right forum, but I just purchased the Rambo Trilogy and I'm playing it through a Sony S330 DVD player into a Denon AVR-2800. I know all 5.1 of my speakers are working, the little DTS test track that plays before the movie does goes through all my speakers, but it seems the...

How are you setup to record tv/dss to vcr?

I just realized, that only having a cable signal into my receiver and TV directly, means I need to have my receiver on if I ever want to record TV. My cable box only has 2 outputs, 1 RF and 1 RCA set. In a situation like tonight, I want to record some TV, but I won't be home till tomorrow...

What's the rule of thumb when setting your sub's crossover?

Something similarly related. I've got a Denon AVR-2800. I believe they have a fixed crossover at 80hz in the receiver on the sub pre-out, is this correct? I want to make sure before I move my x-over on my Infinity sub.

Can I do this with a Denon receiver?

Chuck, Thanks again. I believe I understand. Any device listed in REC OUT will receive the output signal from the device I currently select as REC OUT via the RCA Output for that device. So the receiver is pushing the REC OUT signal through ALL of it's outputs essentially.

Can I do this with a Denon receiver?

What defines where Rec Out goes to? If I select Rec Out based on the input that I want to record from, then what defines where it goes to? YOu said it goes to VCR. Is it ALWAYS defined as VCR? What happens when I set Rec Out to VCR1? Does it use VCR2? What if I wanted to record out to a...

Can I do this with a Denon receiver?

Interesting. Works differnetly then I though. Rec Out is the device you want to rec out from, not rec out to. Am I correct in that I set the Source to Cable/DBS as well like I have been?

Can I do this with a Denon receiver?

Chuck, I do have my cable box connected via analog RCA's to the 2800 and did have the VCR set to Line In but got nothing recorded. I set the 2800 Source to Cable/DBS. I tried it with rec out set to VCR1 and got nothing. I'm not sure if I tried it with rec out actaully not being on at all...

Can I do this with a Denon receiver?

I own an AVR-2800 but I'd like to know if other models can do this if mine can't. I have my cable box routed to my AVR2800. I have my VCR routed to VCR1 with ins going to outs and outs going to ins. I'd DO NOT have cable out from the cable box going into the VCR. I can watch TV just dandy...

    constant hissing sound

My pioneer box switches between analog and digital connections on it's own. If it's a non DD broadcast, then the analog inputs are used only. I know this because I first only had the digital connector in and had no audio except on some premium channels (HBO for example) thas thappened to be...

    constant hissing sound

Ok, when I popped in Saving Private Ryan DD5.1 it didn't appear to be hissing, nor did SPR DTS. So it appears the hissing is only related to watching TV or playing CDs. I havn't been able to unplug my receiver from the HTS-1000 and go directly into the wall as of yet, but will try that...

    constant hissing sound

Slightly more info: Speakers are connected to the Denon using Radio Shack dual banana plugs at speaker end and single plugs at the receiver end. Speaker wire is only a standard 16g radio shack brand in white. All my equipment is plugged into a Monster HTS-1000

    constant hissing sound

Speakers were all calibrated with Avia to 85dB. No speaker level adjustment is above +3dB. Receiver has seen very little use (I'd say no more then 30 hours) over the past 2 years. Speakers are equal in age. The hiss is noticeale at any volume, but it increases as the volume does. I hear...

    constant hissing sound

BTW, Speakers are NHT SuperOnes all around. I can hear this sound in Pro Logic TV mode or 5 CH Stereo mode. I just did a quick test by playing a DVD from my Sony 330 which is connected via an AR Optical cable to the 2800 and the hissing is also there, so I'm inclined to thing it's inherant in...

Whenever I watch TV through my Denon 2800 from my Pioneer Digital Cable box there's always this background noise type of hiss. The cable box is connected to the 2800 with AR Digital Audio cable for Digital Broadcasts and AR Audio Cables for all standard TV broadcasts. Is this normal or is...

need to go pickup new DVD player, need quick opinions

Scott, I followed all the Sony lip sync threads and remember the repair and how the lip sync problems get worse the more you use it. When I replace this player, I will call and see if they will still repair it. If not, it's no big deal since it's going to see no use for a while, and perhaps...
