Prime has always been a mess especially in having separate 4K vs not 4K versions of the same show

That iPad would run the Apple Remote software. Too big? It could be used one handed on the coach next to you, on your leg, etc. I actually use my 10.5" iPad Pro as a Harmony remote - I only use my iPhone if the iPad isn't there.

Ironic because I do use Harmony for everything *BUT* the Apple TV 4k -- I absolutely love the remote, and hate all the standard too-many-buttons remotes for the other devices. You say you have no iPhone -- how about an iPod Touch, an iPad or an old iPhone sitting around somewhere (it can be...

I am sure there are multiple such apps, just depends on which one is important for which user. In my case the app is Infuse, which by itself would make the AppleTV vital.

I am absolutely a fan of the AppleTV 4K hardware, but I have not had the opportunity to test out vs the Roku. I will say that the AppleTV 4K is clearly superior to the software on my LG OLED HDR 4K TV

Yes, in fact the majority of the DVDs from my collection that I bothered copying to my Mac are PAL, so I depend on Infuse/aTV 4K to make them look properly on my LG OLED 4K HDR tv - and I am very happy with the results

Yes — thank you for explaining on my behalf! And in my case also not altering my EyeTV & TiVO recordings. Functional audio was why I got Infuse in the first place, but it is absolutely wonderful in every respect: UI, support, video quality, both its AppleTV and iPad apps

Considering how devoted I am to Infuse on my AppleTV, not to mention support for Apple devices and the ever more amazing screen saver, and excellent 4K/HDR quality, basically the only thing I use my LG is as a dumb monitor.

I am absolutely on Sam's side here: the aTV remote is the *only* remote I use other than the Harmony (Logitech) universal remote iPad/iPhone app. My favorite aTV remote feature is the ability to slide back and forth over a video to get to a specific spot - it works with anything, but I...

AFAIK it works for me - but so far as HDR is concerned I’m more of a Netflix/iTunes HDR guy, than Amazon Prime. When I was trying HDR on Amazon I remember it being really badly designed- you could end up with either a non-HDR or HDR version of the exact same show, depending on where exactly you...

For TV, I always look at the Just Watch app to check what streaming services carry it. I wonder how 5.1 compares between iTunes & Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc for the same show.

I really wouldn’t call I fast forwarding: here is an example-say I’m watching a talk show with a music guest. I watch the monologue hit pause, see that we are on min 9 of a 60 min show, & I slide straight to min 54, guessing that’s where the music guest starts playing. Way more direct than any...

For me it is most often a talk show thing where I am skipping for a particular guest or band. And as I mentioned - the shows I tend to watch, the TiVo skip feature is not available, or not until the next day. I think they have humans doing it for them.

Hit pause, the timeline appears and then use the top part of the AppleTV remote to move your spot forward or backward. If you are having problems maybe it is a streaming issue? Works fine when used on the Infuse Pro app, which is playing material from my Mac Pro HDs.

Thank you for pointing out the TV app has a Sports section - I am so radically unobservant I never noticed - unfortunately when I tapped on the soccer section it tells me what is on ESPN+ but not Fox Sports. In theory the TV app does/should support my Spectrum TV feed, but does not via its...

Because the AppleTV does exactly what the TiVo iOS remote used to do, but stopped doing (and the TiVo hardware remote never did) - allow you to slide back and forth on whatever show you are watching, either to skip commercials or, more importantly, to go directly to the segment of the show you...

I hate all hardware remotes, because even if you had a perfect one it couldn't possibly work with multiple devices. (that said, the one hardware remote I do use is the current AppleTV remote - I really like it, my only objection is lack off glow in the dark keys.) I do have the Harmony for...

They could change the remote and issue new game controllers without touching aTV hardware itself. Ultimately the best way to change the remote would be 100% software only change to the existing iPhone remote app, to make it so good, people stop bothering with the physical remote.

I agree - what exactly would they need to upgrade? Most of anything I can think of is strictly software. Presumable there are people who would like Apple to downgrade the AppleTV into a new, less capable, cheaper version, but as Apple has started supporting Roku & smart TVs for its Apple TV...

I think we are all seeing the same thing, just interpreting it differently. AppleTV to my OLED/HDR/4K LG (via top of the line Spectrum) produces images that are way beyond Blu-ray Disc quality with something like the iTunes HDR/4K movies, or Netflix series like “Our Planet” Again, if you look...

I don’t think we are talking about the same images. You can’t see the curvature of the Earth from something lower than a satellite (or a balloon going up beyond the edge of the atmosphere). And there are a number of them where you see the curvature of the Earth

Some of them are clearly shot from way higher than a helicopter is capable of - we are talking about satellites or the International Space Station. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208992
