Just don't let it go to your head! ;)

Warner DVD's not working thread - watch to make sure they still play

I made a mistake (I think) sending Criterion a disc for a replacement just as the virus crisis was ramping up. I think its going to be a long while before they turn that around.

I tried to take some pix...but that proved frustratingly difficult. No little black dots, discoloration, or transparency. There is one area which might represent swirling, however. It sort of looks like a fingerprint. You'll (sort of) see it here above the inner ring (in the 12 o'clock...

Warner DVD's not working thread - watch to make sure they still play

Wish I could say. But I can't. The copyright date on the back cover is 2004. I'd be relatively sure I bought the disc close to its release date...but I can't say for certain.

Warner DVD's not working thread - watch to make sure they still play

When I checked the other day on Amazon and saw the DVD was listed at $59.99, I figured Damn Yankees was out of print. But now I see (with a closer look) that the WA has a release of it available for $14.99 on Amazon. Maybe if I order a new DVD copy from WA it will ensure the immediate...

Warner DVD's not working thread - watch to make sure they still play

Hey William! I don't have any other players set up at my house right now (other than the Oppo UDP-203). But I tried it in my laptop's disc drive...and it doesn't see anything either. It doesn't register any files when I look on Windows Explorer and if I try to navigate to it via Windows Media...

 My 2004 DVD of Damn Yankees is DOA. This...is...bad. My Oppo 203 sees it as an "Unknown Disc." This is very, very bad. :(

That's the first I've heard of a Blu going south.

Huh. Go figure. My BDP-203 had no positive effect on my ability to play my dead disc of Dinner at Eight.

I received my copy of the Harlow collection in today's mail and Dinner at Eight loaded up and played perfectly. Of course I only watched the first few minutes, but I'm hoping the whole thing plays through without trouble.

Warner DVD's not working thread - watch to make sure they still play

I ordered a reasonably cheap used copy of the Jean Harlow TCM Collection to get a new copy of Dinner at Eight. I figured my wife and I would probably enjoy the other films in the set as well (China Seas, Libeled Lady and Wife vs. Secretary).

Or Dinner at Eight? :( They should. But, will they?

Warner DVD's not working thread - watch to make sure they still play

I've got an Oppo-203. I don't think the issue with Dinner at Eight is with my player. So far, it has handled everything I have thrown at it with great alacrity.

No, Bryan. It was the single-disc stand-alone release. That's the cover art I posted. But in many instances, these are the same discs in the multi-disc compilation releases...

Warner DVD's not working thread - watch to make sure they still play

I went to play my copy of WB's Dinner at Eight (1933) DVD tonight. Nada. I get to the menu...but when I select "Play Movie" or go to "Select Chapter", I cannot get the movie to play. I CAN, however, go to the special features section and play the trailer--ironically. :( I think this might...
