There is a new iMac updated as of yesterday (I put a post in this subforum about it). "Significantly improved" can be debated. They are now using the 10th gen Intel CPU, which goes up to 10 cores. They also for the 27" has a new glass technology (as an upgrade option) which makes for a...

Since Apple silently updated the iMac yesterday, I’m holding out hope for a new ATV soon! :emoji_pray:

Sage advice, Scott. I just like to "future proof" things a little, and I can see myself replacing that set with one that does support DV in 2-3 years time. So my goal is to hold out a little longer for a new ATV 4K (hopefully by holiday season if some of the rumor sites have it right) and then...

So I'm starting to get tempted by an Apple TV 4K, because my Samsung KS8000's UI for apps is...unawesome. But I have a 3rd gen AppleTV that I never use now, so I'm afraid I'll just be throwing good money after bad. I am not tempted to hook my ATV up to my Samsung because I would give up 4K HDR...

It's funny. For all of the things Apple has gotten right (and let's be honest, there's a lot of success stories with this company's product)...a great remote control has somehow managed to elude them since I got my first Macbook in 2006 which came with one (they don't, anymore).

Understood. As I mentioned in the other thread, it's super frustrating that on the HBO Go apps that I have access to (on those two TVs) there is no way to display the bit rate or resolution like you can in the Netflix app on the same TVs. 80mbps should be more than enough to have a good picture...

So I realize this is the Apple TV discussion, so my experience may not be appropriate or reflective of what you all see. But when I use HBO Go via my two TVs native apps (Samsung KS8000, Sony XBR-65X900F) the resolution and quality of Game of Thrones is near blu-ray quality. This includes...

So I'm re-interested in the 4K AppleTV again, because my cable (and internet) carrier Spectrum is the first cable company to fully support watching cable through the AppleTV, including support for Single Sign-On. My dilemma is: I don't know what problem I'm trying to solve by buying an AppleTV...

For clarity, the AppleTV "hobby" comment was Tim Cook's, not mine. I'm not trying to disrespect the product.

Totally your individual call on these types of things. And also how long you plan to have/use the machine. If it's only for a few years, you may indeed never need anything past 32GB. Especially if Apple continues to treat it like a "hobby" rather than a serious product. I view memory like I do...

Isn't the difference like $20? If it were the old pricing model of double the memory, double the price, yeah I get not getting the 64gb. But if it's $179 vs $199...I don't see a reason not to get the 64gb version, unless that $20 is a severe impact on your financial situation. If there's one...

I want to pull the trigger, but since the 64GB is only $20 more, I can't justify paying for the 32GB right now knowing that a Jackson will double the memory. Looks like it's 2018 aTV4K for me... :(

I'm in! lol In all seriousness I know Apple doesn't make its own memory chips, it sources them. I wonder if the launch of the iPhone 8/8+/X has constrained their memory supplies so they're prioritizing the iPhones and lowest ATV over the 64GB ATV. Total conjecture, no proof on my part.

Oh I know it's released. I'm just wondering why availability is so scant.

Wow, so what is the deal with the 64GB versions? All nearby Best Buys (like 10 of them) have zero in stock. No local Apple stores have them in stock and show a January XX delivery date. 32GBs abound everywhere. Did Apple not source enough 64GB RAM chips?

Thanks Wayne! I have an older Apple TV (2nd or 3rd gen I can't remember) and from what I could tell I couldn't manage and playback Apple Music directly from there, I had to stream to it, or connect the ATV to, my laptop or iPhone which was logged in to Apple Music. Since it seems I can truly...

Thanks John. So if I understand correctly you can launch that app, sign in with your Apple Music account and stream from that Apple TV 4K without having any other Apple device on, or connected to the ATV right?

If you are an Apple Music subscriber can you access that from the atv 4K or do you still need to connect a laptop or phone to it?

Most films aren't even shot full 4K (2.8K is the number I'm seeing) and most movie theaters project in either 2K or 4K so I doubt the "powers that be" are going to allow home video to exceed theatrical experience (in terms of pixel count) any time soon. Even on a 120" screen, at a normal viewing...
