I purchased a Pionner DV-45A 2 months ago. I'm very happy with the player except for one thing, a slight pause during movies. I guess this is a layer change. Is there any workaround for this? Are other owners experiencing this as well? I'm thinking of returning the player for this reason...
I spoke to my dealer. He said since I calibrated at 0, playing below 0 is perfectly fine. Just not to go above 0. Also, I checked my speaker settings and I had the sub at -10, once I made it 0, the sound from the other speakers was much louder at -20. Now I play between -20 to -10 and it...
My room size is about 12x18 with a regular ceiling (not cathedral/vaulted), and 2 hallway openings on either side. I calibrated the 5300 with an SPL and got 75db readings when it was set at 0db volume. My individul speaker settings are: Left +2 Center 0 Right +2 Surr L +2 Surr R +2...
gutierrez, I also just bought a Marantz 5300. I usually watch movies from -10 to 0 level. I was surprised a few days ago when I noticed the max was only +13. The individual speaker adjustments I have are 0 - +2. The speakers I have are B&W 600 series. I was also worried that I'm running...
Thanks, I'll look into Chesky's disc. Yeah I heard about the BM problems. If the dvd-a or sacd is 5.1 and I have a sub/sat system then I should be fine right? Where can I purchase an ICMB? Who makes it?
Thanks Brian. Sorry forgot to mention the player. It is a Pioneer 45A. From what you say I guess I can set that to fixed and adjust the settings on the receiver. Bad news that the calibration tones for sub are faulty for this player :frowning: I don't have any dvd-a or sacd discs with test...
Hi, I have a SACD/DVD-A capable player connected to my receiver (Marantz 5300) via analog as well as digital. I calibrated the output levels on the receiver for the digital input, but the analog input (for SACD) has separate settings. Do I set the output levels for each speaker on the...
Hi everyone, I just purchased a Marantz 5300. After connecting just the fronts and center speakers, I connected the power to the receiver to try it out. There was nothing on the display. I could see the power light go on and off when I press the power switch, and also when I switched inputs I...
The Canare cables look good Eric. How do they compare to Rhino? There are 3 differenty types of component video cables: L-4CFB , LV-61S, V3-5C. How do they rank? Thanks.
Dan, I'm not sure about DirecTV HD channels being compressed in any way. They now have an HDTV package for 10.99 a month. So you can get the lowest package plus that one, but you won't get HBO HD or Showtime HD.
I have a 36XBR450 and I'm waiting for the Sony SAT-HD300 receiver to use with Over the air and DTV. If you don't need DTV then you can get a Over the air receiver only.
Thanks for the replies. I realize the Yamaha has many more connectors for optical and video (and component which this model marantz does not). However, none of my video is going through the receiver so I don't really care about that. I am pairing the receiver I get with B&W 600 series...
Well I thought about this. I'm not sure if any DVD movies use 192khz.. I don't think they do. If I play back SACD, I will have to use RCA analog cables to my receiver, so that means I am using my DVD players DAC and not the receivers. Then it might not make sense to connect my DVD player via...
Hi, If a DVD player has a 192kHz/24-bit audio D/A converter and a Receiver only has a 96kHz one, what does this affect? Does this mean I would be losing out 96kHz of quality?
Hi, I am trying to decide on which of these 2 receivers to buy. From what I read and was told, the Marantz receivers have great power and meet their power specs very well, and that Yamaha focus more on their DSP processing and less on the amplifiers. Any opinions on this? I will be using...
Hi, I am trying to buy a home theater surge protector. I was set on the Monster PowerCenter HT800, but I saw that Belkin had similar products for much less. Can anyone give any recommendations? Thanks.
Hi, I am trying to decide between a Yamaha RX-V740 and RX-V640. One of the differences is the OSD. I will have to run a separate composite/svideo cable from receiver to tv for this. I'm not passing video through my receiver. What are the main benefits of having the OSD? Thanks!
Thanks Debbie for all the links and recommendations!! :D They were very helpful. The Polk RM6700 looks great in Titanium. My TV is a Sony 36" XBR with the silvery finish and these speakers would compliment the tv well. Soon I will need to research an AMP. I will read the reviews on cnet. They...
