They re-released The Empire Strikes Back during the summer or fall of 2020 when there were almost no movies to put in theaters. That being said, I think this re-release (if it happens) will be fairly limited. And I agree that starting with ROTJ is odd but since it's the 40th anniversary and...
I've heard multiple reasons for the title change so I don't know what the real reason for it was but Lucas was 100% right to go with Return. Forget that revenge is definitely not the trait of a Jedi, there's simply no revenge in the movie. Anakin killing the Emperor isn't done for revenge, it's...
Yep. The only option is the 2006 (?) DVD release which has the original movies included on a second disc with each movie. Be forewarned that the original versions are non-anamorphic with a transfer used for a 1993 laserdisc so don't expect it to look like a modern disc.
Vader is tinged red so it has the look that he has on the Revenge poster. This is an exclusive at Star Wars Celebration Europe (a fan convention run by LFL) so they're just taking an existing figure and changing the paint job so they have a 'new' toy to sell.
I'm just guessing but I think getting bigger names like Donald Glover or Oscar Isaac to come back may be easier if they only have to do an hour-ish long "episode" rather than being in multiple movies or a TV series that may run for years.
I heard Joe say that on his podcast a few months ago and while I never thought of it before that, there are some aspects that are pretty similar. However, I don't know that that means they lifted it from Gremlins. Despite the similarities, I tend to think LFL set out to take Yoda and make him a...
I've posted it before and I'll post it again but in celebration of the 45th anniversary of the original, here's audio that a kid recorded of his audience watching Star Wars back in the summer of 1977. This is a great time capsule of when Star Wars was just fun and it always gives me a smile.
As far as I'm concerned, Kennedy also completely missed the reason why Solo didn't do as well as the other Star Wars movies. It wasn't the recast of Han and Lando, it was the bad release date (Memorial Day hasn't been a guarantee in 20 years) and also the movie being released five months after...
I think Yoda would have beat Dooku relatively easily but Dooku was gonna squash the wounded Obi-Wan and Anakin with a giant pipe and was able to escape.
I'm so nuts that I saw it four times in the first 24 hours. 1. Me and a friend saw it at midnight, 2. then while high on just having seen it...
Skipping the obvious highlights, some of my favorite moments in AOTC involve Obi-Wan like McGregor's delivery of "Hello, Dex." which is possibly the realest reading of a line in any Star Wars movie. And me and a buddy both love "Traitor" when Obi-Wan is captured and he first sees Dooku.
Also...

Today is the 20th anniversary of Star Wars: Episode II- Attack Of The Clones.
When did I get so old? Though, to quote another LFL production, "It's not the years, honey. It's the mileage."
I love that Sam Jackson is a Star Wars fan. He's not lurking in this thread or watching the cartoons or anything but he's just a regular guy who must really like the movies.
I'll believe it when I see it but IF true, this is great news. The guy has made three masterpiece TV series and is as big of a Star Wars fan as anyone so I'd love to see him take a shot at Star Wars. And dear god, let him (or anyone) do something unconnected to what's come before.
After 25 years, this is an old discussion but I think the various songs in Return Of The Jedi have all been pretty lousy. Yub Nub fits with the Ewoks but once George decided to go with a galaxy-wide celebration for the SE ending, I think the 'new' song works better. The two songs in Jabba's...
I think it's because they shot Jurassic Park with the knowledge of how much they could get away with in terms of CG and the Star Wars SE had to work with footage shot where there was no thought given to adding a CG character. Also, Jabba is on screen much longer and has much closer shots than...
I haven't seen Star Wars in full frame in its entirety since I got the widescreen tapes in 1993. However, I can't lie but I get nostalgic when I see old full frame clips. Such as in this Kenner marketing video from 1979. It contains the news that "Star Wars is forever. George Lucas and 20th...
Lo and behold, you did in issue #3.
Thanks to Chuck causing me to check my back issues, I discovered that the Special Edition was mentioned even earlier than I thought because it was in the first issue of Star Wars Galaxy Magazine from fall 1994 so the SE was public knowledge for more than...
At the time, it was cutting edge work and the Jabba scene is the best example of the SE largely being a test run to see what they could do with CG as they were gearing up for The Phantom Menace. It's kind of incredible how much better technology and the artistry got in two years with Jar Jar...
My earliest memory is of being in a movie theater and getting scared by the shot of Darth Vader in the carbon freezing chamber as Han is getting frozen in The Empire Strikes Back but I was so young that I must have seen the November 1982 re-release. I don't know if it's awesome or sad that my...
Today is the 25th anniversary of the Star Wars: Special Edition. Having never seen the first movie in a theater (and being very young when I saw TESB and ROTJ), it was quite an experience to see the movie on something bigger than a 36 inch TV in my friend's basement. No doubt that nostalgia for...
Boy, the PGA is going to look silly when Kathleen Kennedy gets fired soon*.
*As per Doomcock's top secret inside information that he's been reporting... for about the last five years.
I probably place more value on the canon stuff because it's current but I now view the EU as its own separate timeline. I spent decades reading and loving that stuff so it's still a fun thing that means something to me even if it has no real bearing on current stories.
My biggest problem with...
I think Rogue One is already there. What's amazing to me is how quickly the view of the movie turned. Generally speaking, I think Rogue One took something of a beating when it came out but it only took 2 or 3 years for people to call it one of the best SW movies. It usually takes decades for...
