Configuring non 4k Receiver with Ultra HD Blu-ray player and 4k TV

What I had done in the past with my standard HD (1080p) TV, was to run HDMI out from the cable box to the receiver's sat/cable "in". Then an HDMI from monitor "out" on the receiver to the TV (both ARC). Doing that, I got 1080p on the TV and good sound through my receiver. Doing that with my new...

Configuring non 4k Receiver with Ultra HD Blu-ray player and 4k TV

Thanks JohnRice. Maybe then a non issue. Another idea I had - just as Blu-ray player has two outputs one for sound, one for video, is there some kind of HDMI splitter I could use coming out of the cable box to send sound to receiver and video to the TV?

Configuring non 4k Receiver with Ultra HD Blu-ray player and 4k TV

To continue my story, I decided to buy a new TV last week - a Sony OLED 65 inch A80K. I love the look of the OLED images. It reminds me more of my old plasma. Happy with my choice, but now back to my 12 year old receiver. When watching TV channels on cable I seem to have two options: use the...

I appreciate all the comments. As my concerns have now switched from receivers to TVs, I am going post my TV questions to DISPLAYS so you can follow me there if you wish.

Configuring non 4k Receiver with Ultra HD Blu-ray player and 4k TV

Okay, maybe time to look for a new TV. In the meantime, should I be plugging my Sony 800M2 player into HDMI input 5 or does it make any difference?

Configuring non 4k Receiver with Ultra HD Blu-ray player and 4k TV

I really don't think my Vizio M C-3 TV has any HDR features. Yes, it was purchased brand new in early 2017 but I am sure it is a 2016 model. In fact the quick set up brochure had a 2015 copyright on one of the pages.

Configuring non 4k Receiver with Ultra HD Blu-ray player and 4k TV

No the Vizio M C-3 has no HDR. When I get some 4k Blu-ray movies at the end of the week I will see how they look and sound with my new 4k Sony .player and then I can decide if my current system seems decent enough for the moment or if I want to wait another year. Here in Canada our best sales...

Configuring non 4k Receiver with Ultra HD Blu-ray player and 4k TV

Thanks Mike Up for your lengthy response. My eyes are 69 years old and my ears the same. Now that I have my 4k Blu-ray player I will buy a few Ultra HD movies and see how I enjoy that. Maybe then I can answer my own question about replacing a five year old 60 inch 4k TV and an eleven year old...

Configuring non 4k Receiver with Ultra HD Blu-ray player and 4k TV

I disconnected the audio cable, then reconnected and it worked this time. I have no idea why, but I am happy. Thanks to everyone for their help. Now I just have to decide if it is worth it to upgrade my TV or receiver or both.

Configuring non 4k Receiver with Ultra HD Blu-ray player and 4k TV

So I plugged an HDMI cable into the second HDMI-out on the player and went into settings for the player and set HDMI 2 for audio. I plugged the other end into the AVR BD - In and dialed the Denon to BD. The player worked fine for the video but still no audio. Maybe I have to set something...

Configuring non 4k Receiver with Ultra HD Blu-ray player and 4k TV

Pardon my lack of knowledge, but the second HDMI cable, coming out of the HDMI Out (2) for audio; where would I plug the other end into my Denon receiver? The only HDMI slots not occupied are ones labelled IN - DVD, games, V.Aux. Would one of those work?

Configuring non 4k Receiver with Ultra HD Blu-ray player and 4k TV

I recently bought the Sony 800M2 player so I could play Ultra HD movies and SACD. I swapped out my old Sony S360 player. I was getting no image when I switched my receiver to “Blu-ray”from “Cable”. I discovered it was because my Denon 2311(from 2011) is HDMI 1.4 and can’t pass through the 4k...
