the basic premise of the design is 1) take four reasonably efficent drivers (89+ dB) that work well in a sealed enclosure 2) size sealed enclosure such that the system becomes power limited, not excursion limited... e.g. make the box small enough that whatever amp you choose, you can't bottom...
I'm not sure if the difference would be a big as you think. The quad sub is inherently more efficient, but much of that efficiency is 'thrown away' by the LT cct down low. The quad sub does have more displacement (almost 11 liters at xmax), and it sounds like a low Q sealed sub (tight)...
Trust me... it doesn't sway. Well, it probably does if you measured in naometers. I like the appearance too much to flip the drivers around. If they were Tumults I might just becuase the tumult looks cooler from the back than the front ;) David
Yes, I cooked up the LT cct on my own. I used this spreadsheet http://sound.westhost.com/linkxfrm.zip because it allows you to work from actual measured values for your sub. I measured my sub using this method: http://sound.westhost.com/tsp.htm and then plugged those values into...
Yes, all the construction was done by me... the heavy lifting (standing it up, lying it down, lifting it in and out of the "jaws" of the giant mdf clamp) was done with the aid of my son. Overall I'm pleased with how it turned out, particularly considering it's the first time I've ever built...
The Obelisk of Doom: how's that for a title? :) So christened by my middle daughter.... History: I had always want to build a DIY sub, but never seemed to have the cash or time to actually do it. At long last I managed to collect some of the parts. I originally had an Adire Tumult 15D2, but...
