Hm, the Comcast web site linked me to a PDF manual of the DCT-5100. Maybe it just hasn't been updated... Either way, I just hope its a) 1 box b) looks better than the crap analog cable I have now and c) has DVI out because I'm out of YPbPr inputs... Things are different here sometimes because...
Well, if he wants a "big" screen LCD or DLP, he's talking (I guess?) about 45-60" and spending between $2800 and $$$ungodly$$... If he's rich, I suggest the Sony Grand Wega 60" (RP-LCD). It will blow your socks off, or perhaps your wallet, or both. Keep in mind that the native resolution is...
I just ordered Comcast HDTV and the lady said I will get 2 boxes? One for the regular cable and another one for (only) HDTV channels? That sounds crazy, is this true?
Groovy, thanks alot. I do live in earthquake country, so I will get some blocks to support the TV, and secure the whole rack to the wall, like I do with everything. :)
Thanks. I noticed the shelves are only 18" deep, that deep enough to put the TV on? If the shelves are just wire-mesh I'll probably get some wood to put on top of all of them. Unfortunately Staples doesn't carry these in stock at their retail stores so I can't go look at em... but I do have a...
I'm about to buy the same TV. What kind of stand is that and how high is it off the floor? *edit ok Wiretech, I will look for it, but how high is the bottom shelf and is it adjustable? I assume the other shelves are adjustable? Also important, does it rattle or vibrate easily? Like say if you...
Thanks, yeah I don't have the Xbox. Between the choice of either 720 or native 480p, I would choose 480, I do have an excellent P-scan dvd player and watch a lot of dvd.. Anyone else compared these? Or even seen the new Sony yet?
Flat panel tech isn't yet ready for prime time. When they fix the viewing angle problems, the rainbow problems, the blur/lag problems, get the resolution up to 1080 ... AND ... make a decent sized set (50"+) not cost as much as a new Toyota... THEN you can think about it. Til then, CRT is...
Anyone seen either of these 2 new sets? Sony 46 WT520 Toshiba 46 H84 Mainly interested in 480p DVD, standard cable and some HD cable. I kind of like the Toshiba better but I guess it converts 480i/p DVDs to 540p or 1080i.. whereas the Sony has a 'native' 480 mode that's better for...
DVE is confusing, but gets the job done. Avia - I played with one briefly a few years ago. It only had a 5.1 sound test, I don't know if they've updated it, but otherwise it was very good, much better laid out than the hellish DVE. I've never seen the other one.. I think you can do the...
Also the Toshiba 46H84 is out or will be out soon, and that adds a HDMI port (basically a DVI with audio, the new "USB" for home theaters). With almost all newer RPTVs, they have a video scaler built-in, so a progressive scan DVD player isn't exactly needed, but since you can get one for...
I have this on my 27" Sony WEGA tube. I first noticed it on Star Trek DVDs I think, all the stars in the opening have a line coming off them pointing to the right. Turning the contrast down helps a lot, but there will still be some feignt lines visible if you go up and look real close, but...
Here is a review of 4 RPTVs in that price range including the Toshiba, which would be my recc. Here is a review of the Hitatchi. From what I've gathered - drawbacks of the Sony are, no HDCP which means you can forget about HD-DVD and possibly other HD formats, when those come out (but may...
Have you done a convergence? Only thing I can say is go to a store and look at the same model. Maybe take one of your DVDs with you that shows the color problem, and compare it to yours. If yours is defective then take your money back and/or get another. That other model is probably ok, but...

The HX "Cinema" line is supposed to be the upgrade from the H. It's hard to tell from reading the specs but the biggest difference that I can see is the HX has "PowerFocus HD4" CRTs while the H has "PowerFocus HD II" CRTs. Is the "4" CRT really that much better than the "II"? Who knows?

$400 for a HDTV? I think you are out of luck :frowning: You could get a Samsung/Phillips 30-32" for more like $800, but that's about the cheapest they get. Unless you want to venture into Walmart/Target/other mega store's "Brand of the week" piece of .... which I don't advise. :frowning: My...

That's funny. I have the exact same turntable. I bought it in about 1985 :) With an Ortofon cart. Don't know how much that cost but I do know the TT was about $99 or $129. Good heavens, the price has gone UP in almost 20 years? That's got to be a first. Anyway, that's a great little table, and...

I'm in the market for a 46" set and I've pretty much decided on the Toshiba. There are a lot of model #s: 46H83, 46HX83 and now the new 46H84 which is not in stock everywhere yet. Anyone know the major differences between the H83 and HX83? Should I grab one now or wait a few weeks for the H84?
