    Pioneer CLD-S201 Laserdisc player

Thanks for the replies. I read them just before leaving work and stopped by the store to check the player out. It looked mint and had the remote and the owner told me I could bring it back if it didn't work. I got the guy down to $90 and since this is the only player I've seen locally at a...

    Pioneer CLD-S201 Laserdisc player

Can anybody tell me anything about this player aside from the info at: http://www.laserdiscarchive.co.uk/la...r_cld-s201.htm I assume it is 49 dB S/N for the video, can anyone confirm that? I'm having a heck of a time finding a laserdisc player locally. I found a CLD-D702 and a CLD-53 both...

    WTB: Laserdisc player

I'm looking for a laserdisc player with digital audio out (need not have AC-3 RF out), 49-50 dB or higher S/N ratio, and 2 sided play. I'd prefer Pioneer but would consider clones or other quality players. Email me if you have a player that meets these criteria. I'm looking to stay under $150 at...

WTB: laserdisc player & Star Wars

I'm still looking if anybody has a Pioneer as requested above (I have a lead on one, but haven't heard back from the seller so I'm not sure...) Thanks, Brian

    Where to buy laserdisc players

Aside from the debate over whether or whether or not eBay us evil, does anybody have any other suggestions as to where I might find a LD player locally? I've tried all of the suggestions so far (high-end dealers, online classifieds, newspaper classifieds, pawn shops, thrift shops, flea markets...

I'm still in need of a player if anyone has one for sale. Brian

    Where to buy laserdisc players

Ralph, I'm assuming that's because most that you find on eBay, etc. don't have the original boxes, forcing the sellers to come up with their own packing method which is most likely inferior to the original box and custom molded styrofoam, etc. Brian

    Denon laserdisc player

Can anyone tell me anything good or bad about Denon LD players? I found a used electronics shop that just got one in but it was packed away and the owner said in need of minor repair for the drawer mechanism (he offers a return period of a couple weeks so I guess if his repair is faulty, it...

    Where to buy laserdisc players

Well, I just called the only Pioneer laserdisc service center in Cincinnati and they said that they rarely, if ever get used laserdisc players in for sale. So much for that possibility...

Thrift Stores? Really? Like Goodwill, St. Vincent's, etc.?

WTB: laserdisc player & Star Wars

Hi all, I've just purchased the Star Wars Laserdiscs from someone on the forums and now I just need a player. I'm thinking I want Pioneer and I definitely want to stay at or above a 50 dB S/N ratio with 2 sided play. Beyond that, I'm not picky. Thanks, Brian

    Where to buy laserdisc players

I am wanting to buy a laserdisc player and am wondering what type of local places I can look in addition to the internet. I'm not fond of having one shipped (I have heard stories where the players didn't take to shipping very well regardless of packing - since it would not be the original box)...

WTB: Star Wars THX Trilogy Laserdisc

I am looking for the '95 THX release of the trilogy. If anybody on this thread who mentioned wanting to sell it still has it, or if anybody else has it for sale, email me. Thanks, Brian

WTB: laserdisc player & Star Wars

Thanks for the links. I will be doing some reading at lunch today! It seems backwards to be doing research to buy a laserdisc player after having had a DVD player for 5 years now! Oh well.....

WTB: laserdisc player & Star Wars

Jeff, Thanks for the info. Do you (or anyone else for that matter) know of any kind of database which lists Laserdisc players and their vital stats? It's kind of hard to dig up info on these things since they aren't made anymore! Sunil, I sent you a PM. I'm not interested in a trade but...

WTB: laserdisc player & Star Wars

I am looking to buy an inexpensive laserdisc player and the Star Wars trilogy. I would prefer both from one person and would certainly consider separately but I would want the player first so that I didn't somehow end up with laserdiscs I can't use. I would prefer the original THX trilogy or...

Help with Jackie Chan movies and picture quality...looking for the best ones

Shanghai Noon and Rush Hour 1 & 2 are must haves. No spectacular transfers, but certainly respectable. Mr. Nice Guy isn't too shabby either, especially for $10 on average. Those 4 are the only Chan movies in my collection so far so I can't comment on the rest.

Best DVDs for testing DD sound system

I'd have to second Gladiator. The first battle is great - lots of surround action with the arrows flying, etc. The Battle of Carthage scene is great too. For a subwoofer workout, I'd recommend The Phantom Menace or the beginning of Toy Story 2. SVS has some others listed on their website...

    How tough are Prontos?

Well, I hope I can learn to treat a Pronto properly because I just ordered a TSU2000 that should be here tomorrow! I can't wait to get customizing! I considered the MX-500 but decided to go the Pronto route because I really like the idea of being in total control (no matter how long it may...

    How tough are Prontos?

Thanks for all the replies. I am not against modifying my remote using habits slightly to take better care of a Pronto than I do my current remote. I just wanted to make sure that the Pronto wouldn't be toast from the occasional drop to the carpet, etc. It sounds like if I am just a little...

    How tough are Prontos?

If they are that fragile, how do you guys keep from damaging them? Am I the only person who keeps his remote on the arm of the Lazy Boy while watching TV?

    How tough are Prontos?

Physically, I mean. I am ready to buy one but realized that my living room is hard on remotes. If I am not knocking the remote off of the arm of the Lazy Boy (onto a carpeted floor), I'm sitting on it or the dog (big dog) is sitting on it. Would a Pronto be short-lived in my house, or is it...

OAR vs P&S: A Helpful Analogy for J6P?

Actually, I think it's important to NOT say things like "the director's artistic vision is being compromised" to J6P. You'll just get an eye roll and dig yourself into a hole. J6P doesn't care about "the director's artistic vision". He only cares about being entertained. We just need to get...

    Remote: hard vs. soft buttoned

Bryan, It sounds like we might be on the same page. I also don't need every button on my remote. The advanced setup buttons are overkill. My biggest beef is that when for instance, the cable box says press "B" to list shows by title (or whatever "B" does, I want a button on my remote that...

    Remote: hard vs. soft buttoned

I'm looking for a new remote control and was convinced that I needed a hard buttoned remote. Now that I think about it though, my current hard buttoned remote controls every function I need to control in my setup. The problem is that half of the functions are hidden on mis-labeled or poorly...

    Need "wife friendly" remote

I took a quick look at Marantz's site and like the looks of the RC-2000 Mk 2. A quick search on the web yielded no one selling them though. Does anybody know of an online vendor and how much they are going for? It looks like it might be a direct competitor to the MX-500. I also found an...

    Need "wife friendly" remote

Well, it looks like the MX-500 is the best fit for me at this point. The only other possible exception might be the MX-1000, but for $100 more and less hard buttons (granted, it has much more flexibility and customizations with the LCD portion) I guess I can't really justify it. I guess the...

    Need "wife friendly" remote

Bryan, Thanks so much for the reply. You bring to light my worst fears and make some good points. My biggest issue is having to constantly look down to see which button to press. I guess my "ideal" (non-existant) remote would be a fully hard buttoned remote with a tiny LCD window over each...
