I believe he's referring to seeing more of the tops and bottoms of the Super 35 frame that you can't see in the widescreen version. Yes, I understand that 2.35 is what Peter Jackson intends the movie to be seen at (and obviously, you lose waht is intended to be seen on the sides of the frames)...
