Kickstarter to Restore, Re-Release Dennis Hopper's Out of the Blue (1980)

The producers of Dennis Hopper's follow-up to Easy Rider and The Last Movie have set up a Kickstarter to fund a 4K restoration and re-release - including on Blu-Ray, which can be had with the $50 backer tier.

Warner Archive Survey for Blu-ray Releases

Voted for She Wore a Yellow Ribbon and Suspicion - fairly sure that The Big Sleep will get a release regardless of the outcome. Write-ins were The Devils (glad to see the campaign for that one build some momentum recently) and Local Hero

LOCAL HERO and COMFORT AND JOY

I can't speak for the US, but Local Hero has a huge audience here in the UK and it's regularly included near the top of Best British Film of All Time lists. Thankfully, we already have great Blu-Ray releases for Forsyth's debut feature That Sinking Feeling and Gregory's Girl.

Any news on the following films?

Secrets & Lies and Darling are both already out in the UK

What would you like to see next from criterion?

While the vast majority of their releases would probably need to be region locked by necessity anyway, Criterion is the odd one out with the boutique labels (e.g. Arrow, Masters of Cinema etc.) in that it has a blanket policy to region lock all Blu-Ray releases as opposed to only when...

    Warners/Criterion/The Emmigrants

For all we know, Criterion have already licensed them. We know that Criterion now have a deal with Warner and given that they are on record as being fans of the films (and Troell), it would be very surprising if they didn't get them. I don't think much work will be needed either - I'm no...

    Hi from Fox!

Hi Mr. Finn, Do you know if Robert Altman's HealtH will ever be released on Blu-Ray (or even DVD)? It's only ever been broadcast on TV as far as I know. Also, any information on possible Blu-Ray releases of the following would be much appreciated: Panic in Needle Park Waking Life La Luna...

    Aspect Ratio Documentation

Dolan uses aspect ratio to incredible effect in Mommy. The moment when the protagonist (not a plot spoiler, but a moment I think is best if you don't expect it beforehand). It may not be anyone's 'view of reality' but it is exceptionally effective at making us aware of the protagonist's...

I expect that you're right, though the ones I mentioned are still listed by Park Circus and Hollywood Classics (except Hour of the Wolf on the latter) as being with MGM and they're normally who I check rights with. Neither list Persona.

Hi MisterLime, I really appreciate your openness and frequent updates here. Thank you! Has Kino got any of these? (If not, would be good to see them picked up in the future: Park Row (Samuel Fuller, 1952) The Delinquents (Robert Altman, 1957) Something Wild (Jack Garfein, 1961) Greetings...

I think Criterion confirmed at their last Wexner talk that they now have a deal in place with Warner, though no titles have surfaced as of yet (but Before Sunrise and Before Sunset have been confirmed). Also, I just remembered that CBS owns Hitchcock's Under Capricorn, which I maintain is an...

As a film itself it's no masterpiece, but speaking of unreleased CBS films - Steven Spielberg's Something Evil? I don't think that one has ever been released on home video, but I'm sure it would be a good seller. Of course, that was a TV film and I'm not sure if you can licence those. Robert...

WHV Press Release: The Golden Year Collection (Blu-ray)

I'll get the singles, seeing as I already have Gone with the Wind. I notice that they're releasing an Errol Flynn and a Bette Davis but not the 1939 film that actually has them starring together - The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex. Here's hoping that gets upgraded in either a Flynn box...

That's very true, thanks Mr. Lime :) To respond to your question, while I am occasionally guilty of using the term 'masterpiece' too liberally (Kino themselves call the film a "masterwork"), I don't think there's any relation between merit and popularity. To discuss it on depth would certainly...

It would be cool if Kino could release 3x3D or, at least, include the Godard segment as an extra on Goodbye to Language. Basically I'd like more Godard. I see discussion of silent film a couple of pages back. My most wanted Kino upgrade would have to be Sir Arne's Treasure - a true masterpiece...

    Ken Russells THE DEVILS

See this recent video by Mark Kermode, who found the thought-lost 'Rape of Christ' sequence 10 years ago. Warner think (or, at least, thought then) that the film is "tonally distasteful".

    Ken Russells THE DEVILS

Following on from Guillermo Del Toro criticising Warner and calling for the film to be released and Mark Kermode's vlog above, there's now an online campaign to try and get Warner to release Russell's director's cut. There's a Facebook group (nearly 3000 likes in a week) and the twitter hashtag...

Criterion 2015 Speculation and Wish Listing
