Press Release Criterion Press Release: Show Boat (Blu-ray)

I'd really like to know why the full 1929 version isn't included. I wonder if it was Criterion's decision or WB's. As it stands, I'm hoping the 1929 version shows up in the Warner Archive sometime with the previously missing sound discs restored.

Press Release Criterion Press Release: Show Boat (Blu-ray)

Yes, its my understanding that the 1929 version survives complete. I also believe the sound discs that were missing when the laser disc was made have since been found, but i could be wrong. My heart sank a little when I saw the 1929 version wasn't being included as an extra in its complete...

A Few Words About A few words about...™ Universal Horror Collection Volume 1 -- in Blu-ray

The Cat Creeps is one of those films that I cant understand how it became "lost." It may have something to do with Paramount acquiring the rights to make the Bob Hope version in 1939. Though, Universal would have gotten the rights back when the purchased the pre-1948 Paramount sound library.

Warner Archive Discussion Thread (The Announcements/The Films)

I've had random questions deleted before but Ive never been blocked. I think I asked whether they would go back and re-release titles released 10 years ago when better masters become available such as Private Lives and the silent Garbos.

Kino Lorber Insider (Read Guidelines Post #3)

I know they aren't part of this current Universal deal, but I wonder if Kino would have any interest in some of the early Paramount "talkies" (1929-1931) like the Philo Vance series with William Powell (Canary Murder Case, Greene Murder Case, and Benson Murder Case) or the Dr. Fu Manchu series...

The Invisible Man + The Creature from the Black Lagoon Blu Ray Legacy Sets coming 8/28

Maybe they could have added THE LAST WARNING (1929) to a Phantom-themed set since it takes place in a theater and Universal has recently restored it supposedly.

Cary Grant - The Vault Collection for April 2016

I received this in the mail yesterday and watched THE WOMAN ACCUSED (1933). Enjoyed the film, and the picture was fine, but there was an annoying hum in the soundtrack throughout. DId anyone else have this problem? I'm guessing it's not a disc problem but a problem with the source they used.

    Universal Hollywood Icons Collection

I really hope this leads to future collections for stars like Claudette Colbert and Clara Bow. Maybe even William Powell's Philo Vance films. I don't think any of Clara's Paramount films, except Wings, have ever seen a legitimate release. Same for many of Claudette Colbert's early films. The...

Vivendi and RHI Press Release: Laurel & Hardy: The Essential Collection

I would love to see a Charley Chase collection, especially those rare 1928-1929 films that are rarely every shown. I have heard that many of the soundtracks for the early talkies have been found in recent years... it would be great to see them synced up with the film and released on DVD. If...

Vivendi and RHI Press Release: Laurel & Hardy: The Essential Collection

The UK set had most all of their silents I believe. However, the prints ranged from very poor to good. It didn't seem like they had access to the nitrate material that Agee's Lost Films set had. Also, the UK silents had their music tracks compiled from Beau Hunks recordings of LeRoy Shields...

Criterion Press Release: Island of Lost Souls (DVD)

I have never cared for the original advertising material for Island of Lost Souls. Its as if Paramount had no idea how to market the film...or they were trying to hide the fact that it was science fiction/horror. All the original posters that I have seen hype up THE PANTHER WOMAN and make the...

Warner Archive Discussion Thread (The Announcements/The Films)

I guess my wish list is too long because it was cut off on mine as well. The "Her" was supposed to be Clara Bow's "Her Wedding Night" (1931). And I agree...would love to see a Philo Vance at Paramount collection.

Warner Archive Discussion Thread (The Announcements/The Films)

I agree, the Crawford/Gable films need revisited. I purchased Chained and found the print to be very scratchy and poor. Also, Private Lives (1931) looked pretty bad...the print i recorded off TCM looked better than the Archive release.
