Silent Running (1972) (Blu-ray) Available for Preorder

I saw this in a movie theatre (remember them?) when it first came out and loved it, even though my prom date didn't. Saw it many times afterwards, unlike her:rolleyes:. The original blu-ray release suffered from an out-of-focus sequence at the very beginning of the film; hopefully this will be...

Press Release Criterion Press Release: The War of the Worlds (1953) (Blu-ray)

Just watched my copy (received yesterday) last night. It's absolutely GORGEOUS. Nice to finally see a disc look as good as you hoped it would. If you grew up loving this movie, like I did, you owe it to yourself to get this Criterion. The colors and clarity are so good, it was like I was seeing...

    A Few Words About A few words about...™ Underwater! - in Blu-ray

This was one of my favorite movies on TV (in 4:3 black & white) as a kid. Anything underwater was cool for me as my dad was a SCUBA instructor for the YMCA. My interest in Jane Russell came later :) Great to see now in Technicolor and "widescreen"! There are some soft scenes, but for the most...

A Few Words About A few words about...™ Universal Horror Collection Volume 1 -- in Blu-ray

I received this set yesterday and I'm underwhelmed by the picture quality. Looks like no real restoration work was done, unlike the wonderful Universal "Complete Legacy Collection" blu-rays for The Mummy, Dracula, etc. After watching The Black Cat and The Raven, I put on my old Bela Lugosi...

Press Release Shout Select Press Release: Endless Love (Blu-ray) (1981)

I hear ya! That theater manager job was super fun in many aspects (especially the free popcorn, seeing private showings whenever I felt like it, etc.) but definitely accelerated the aging process.

Press Release Shout Select Press Release: Endless Love (Blu-ray) (1981)

This played in my theater back when I was a movie theater manager, and I remember it most as being a ratings enforcement nightmare. It was marketed directly at teenagers and every underage girl in town wanted to get in, yet the R rating had me trying to exclude everyone under 17. Happily, word...

    3D Blu-ray Review Jivaro 3D Blu-ray Review

Watched my copy last night. Fantastic picture quality! More pot boiler stuff than I remember, but basically I LOVED IT! Just wish Lon Chaney Jr. had a bit more screen time.

Press Release Scream Factory Press Release: The Deadly Mantis (1957) (Blu-ray) Available for Preorder

Not my line, unfortunately. Saw it once in another review, another place, another time.

Press Release Scream Factory Press Release: The Deadly Mantis (1957) (Blu-ray) Available for Preorder

I can't believe how bad this one looks, which was always one of my fav monster flicks. "Enough grain to feed the Third World". I know that stock footage always looks bad, but even many of the production scenes look like a bad DVD. The only good thing is that we finally get to see it in 1:85...

A Few Words About A few words about...™ The Swimmer -- in Blu-ray

I've always loved this movie. Haunted me since I was a kid. However, I found the Blu-ray presentation a bit off in color: flesh tones (especially on Burt's bod) had too much orange in comparison with the DVD.

Blu-ray Review Hilda Crane Blu-ray Review

Just watched this last night, amazing picture quality, and I'm glad that someone else noticed that the aspect ratio sure isn't 2.35:1! So I assume the film was originally in 2.55:1, and the description on the case (and elsewhere, IMDB etc) saying 2.35 is a "mistake"? I really liked Judith Evelyn...

Blu-ray Review Female on the Beach Blu-ray Review

This was great to finally see in the 2:00 aspect ratio. However, about 20 percent of the Blu-ray suffers from distracting texture noise in faces, walls, etc., none of which was present in the 4:3 DVD. Very disappointing in this regard.

    Movies only you could love

Movies I love but my wife hates: The Swimmer (Has haunted me since childhood. I jumped on the new Blu-ray release) Times Square (Tim Curry and Trini Alvarado rock. Would love a Blu-ray of this) Trainspotting (Hey, I'm Scottish...and Bohemian) Sid and Nancy (Incredible all around) To my wife's...
