Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954) ....coming from WAC

Thank you Warner Brothers for bringing some much needed happiness into my life. This announcement has certainly lifted my spirits. I'm another who had written this title off, but to get the matted version as well is totally beyond belief. Doug.

    Fox 1950s CinemaScope shorts

The Fox "Movietone" 35mm Cinemascope shorts in my collection are all Optical and have now turned a gorgeous shade of DeLuxe pink. The shorts themselves have dated but are still of great historic and nostalgic value. Yes a Blu-ray collection would be fabulous, but unfortunately the discs would...

    A Few Words About A few words about...™ Musicals 4-Movie Collection -- in Blu-ray

My comprehensive posting regarding the career of Bert May can be found on the thread, "HELLO DOLLY!" (1969) Page 10 - post number #189 Sorry, but I'm not sure how to link that older posting into this thread. Bert in the 1940s. Doug.

    A Few Words About A few words about...™ Musicals 4-Movie Collection -- in Blu-ray

I'm amazed that no one here has mentioned the movie's show-stopper number complete with it's encore. "BRUSH UP YOUR SHAKESPEARE" Wonderfully performed by Keenan Wynn and James Whitmore (with a glimpse of Hermes Pan) featuring Cole Porter's brilliant Music and Lyrics plus the fabulous Conrad...

3D Meet Bob Furmanek: HTF Golden Age 3-D Consultant

Just over 50 years, I'm guessing it's not from the golden era but maybe from a handful of early 60s titles. "September Storm"? "Adam and Six Eves"? "Paradisio"? or "The Bellboy and the Playgirls"? "September Storm" would be the most interesting of that bunch as it was shot in 2.35:1...

    Sony Archive MOD

Still hoping that "YOU CAN'T RUN AWAY FROM IT" will make it's way to DVD. I'm not sure why this well cast Musical remake of "IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT" has been so far neglected. Doug.

VistaVision--film by film chat and vote

I seem to remember a response from a Paramount Executive on this forum a couple of years ago stating that "One Eyed Jacks" would not be considered because the market was already flooded with PD copies. This is one title that deserves to be rescued from PD Hell. Doug.

    Universal Vault Series - Amazon.com exclusive DVD-Rs

Wow, finally Jerome Kern's beautifully melodic "HIGH, WIDE AND HANDSOME" Next to Kern's "Centenial Summer" it's always been one of my most anticipated DVD releases. It has a most charming score and Irene Dunne sings sublimely. I've yet to see a decent print on TV so hopefully this will be a...

    LIFE WITH FATHER

My biggest wish is that "ONE EYED JACKS" can be rescued from PD Hell. Olive films might be our only chance. There was a really nice looking print of 'Father' run on Pay TV here a couple of years ago. (for locals it was shown on Bill Collins' Classics) Doug.

Olive Films Blu-ray Release and Discussion Thread

I'd like to see Olive Films release "BEAU JAMES" Bob Hope and VistaVision. After releasing "Dragonfly Squadron" in 3D. It would be sensational if OLIVE FILMS tackled some of Paramount's 3D titles. "Those Redheads From Seattle" and "Sangaree" for starters. Doug.

British classics that should be on Blu by now, but aren't for some reason

Thanks for that Steve. I'm now guessing that the copy on YouTube might well be taken from that UK DVD. It certainly isn't the Korean disc as the quality of that disc is inferior. YouTube also has the B&W behind the scenes feature which is on the UK disc, so I'm now convinced of where it has come...

British classics that should be on Blu by now, but aren't for some reason

One Powell-Pressburger film that seems to be missing in action is "GONE TO EARTH" As far as I can find out it's only available on a fairly average Korean DVD. Like all Powell-Pressburger films the colour is luscious and Jennifer Jones likewise. It was strangely missing from the Studio Canal /...

Cinerama digital restoration videos-Seven Wonders & Search for Paradise

I just got an unexpected e-mail from Jeff Masino of Flicker Alley confirming that both 'Seven Wonders' and 'Search for Paradise' have been shipped and are on their way. That's almost a fortnight early. I just can't wait to re-discover these two CINERAMA classics. For me these are by far my...

A Few Words About While we wait for A few words about...™ The Rodgers & Hammerstein Collection -- in Blu-ray

Silly to ask, but when you are incredibly desperate then common sense no longer seems to exist. So here goes then, Is the Aussie disc of "The King and I" the same BLUE version that we have all grown to detest so much? I know, stupid question, but ..... Doug.

Thanks John for the quick, positive and delightfully informative reply. Now I'm over the moon and incredibly happy. :) Fantastic price as well. ( Hey! how did "Singin' in the Rain" sneak in there?) Oh well, looks as if a lot of us will have a spare copy on hand. Doug.

Warner Musical Collection (Calamity Jane, The Band Wagon, Kiss Me Kate 3D) - 3/3/15!

What is the box set called? (They are 3 immensely popular titles but they seem to be random selections from 2 different studios) Will they be on Warner Archives? Are there any details available at this time? Sorry for the questions, but I'm still in a state of shock (bliss) and need to be...

3D Olive Films Press Release: Dragonfly Squadron (3D Blu-ray)

Congratulations to Bob and everybody else involved at 3D Film Archive for the 'brilliant' restoration of this film. The whole experience took me back to the fifties again and what a privilege to be able to view it for the first time in almost flawless 3D. Again well done 3D Film Archive and...

I watched the 1943 version of "The Desert Song" last night and was very pleased with the Warner Archives DVD. It would make for a terrific Blu-ray disc. (shame, but that may well be just wishful thinking) As for the new Warner Archives DVD release well here's my observation. The 40's...

davidmatychuk has just announced on another thread that he bought the new stand-alone Blu-ray of "The King and I" and the sad news is that, as expected, it is the same ghastly blue tinged version. Oh well, maybe in a couple of years time we may get a decent and proper 4k version. Here's...

Has anybody received the new stand alone, copy of "The King and I" Blu-ray yet? Like many others here, I'm also curious to know if there has been any change in picture quality. Normally I wouldn't think it feasible or possible, but with so many complaints, who knows. Doug.
