    A Few Words About A few words about...™ WarGames -- in Blu-ray

I noticed the same thing in the Lord of the Rings Extended Edition set on Blu-ray. I had read in some reviews of the set that while the Fellowship of the Ring definitely had the colors changed, that the color timing appeared untouched in the second two films. Well, I've seen all 3 and the...

    SVS packaging

Our PB2-Plus was delivered on a big truck by a carrier that handles large items, I guess. I think they are called Ohio-Penn Shipping or Cargo, or something like that. Very professional and the box was perfect when it arrived. I wish all companies delivered things that way. But as was said, with...

Blu-ray Review HTF BLU-RAY REVIEW: Ronin

Apparently the film was shot in a style that would give it that classic cold war film look, which it does and is quite pleasing, so some of what's being seen is as the film should appear (somewhat desaturated, etc.). The problem is they stuck the movie on a single-layer disk, which was a...

HTF BLU-RAY REVIEW: King of Kings

A great film with a superb transfer! The picture quality is incredible, such excellent clarity and detail in the image, this powerful event is even more present and tangible with such an image, just wonderful. You've got to love 70mm film, I was wish all great movies were shot on it. One of...

The official WORST STUDIO COVER ART thread. Post your worst covers!

Hmm, I think you might be right, his face doen't seem to match his head. Now that I look closer, it appears like they attached his face to a different version of his head, kind of glued it on. haha :) It's hard to believe just how bad this is...

The official WORST STUDIO COVER ART thread. Post your worst covers!

My number 1 vote goes for this cover. Kind of hard to imagine one worse than this, just awful. :) Val Kilmer looks like some kind of disfigured wax dummy. haha :) How little talent and how much poor taste must one possess to make a home video cover like this for a movie? And this guy gets...

    Sony WEGA television question.

Dave Connoy: It's ok, sorry I missed you post back then. haha :) Well, after nearly ten years of almost constant use (probably 12+ hours a day, on average), the Wega's picture finally started to deteriorate (bleeding colors, various artifacts and such), but we had a lot of great use out of...

A Few Words About A few words about...™ The Lord of the Rings Trilogy - Extended Edition -- in Blu-ray

Thanks for the link to the updated review. Very interesting how they note in their careful checking of the color in the film that even lettering in the credits has a green cast over it now (instead of remaining white), surely that can't be intentional. Makes me start to wonder if there was...

A Few Words About A few words about...™ The Lord of the Rings Trilogy - Extended Edition -- in Blu-ray

RAH: Thanks for the analysis of the screen caps and tv, it's very helpful. While I certainly understand Mark's concern (I would be quite annoyed if that scene were that green, discoloring the hobbits and their clothes), if you're saying on your well-calibrated tv that this scene is nowhere...

A Few Words About A few words about...™ The Lord of the Rings Trilogy - Extended Edition -- in Blu-ray

Ah, ok. Thanks for the info. :) Too bad they didn't have the music video in HD. Or at least include it in the upcoming Extended Edition set, they have tons of extras there, and plenty of disks to put it on, why not include the music video also?

A Few Words About A few words about...™ The Lord of the Rings Trilogy - Extended Edition -- in Blu-ray

Quick question for those that have the Blu-Ray set of the theatrical version of the trilogy. In the extras, the music video of Enya's excellent song (she should have won the Oscar that year), "May It Be", is that music video in 1080p on the disk, or is it the same as the music video in the...

    American Made Speakers

It's great to see that VMPS speaker cabinets are once again being made in the U.S., as they always had been before! :) http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=78402.0 So if you buy VMPS speakers, not only are you getting some of the best speakers you'll ever hear (at very reasonable...

    Fist of Legend SE

Cameron Yee: Thanks for the info. Hmm, that's extremely strange for Chinese audiences to not be demanding to hear the real voices of their favorite action movie stars in movies in which they play the leading role. It's too bad, because then we don't even get to hear what Li sounds like in...

    Fist of Legend SE

I have a question about the English subtitles. Are they reasonably accurate to what is being said in the original Cantonese and Mandarin soundtracks, or are they based on the English dubbing of the 5.1 soundtrack (which apparently is wildly inaccurate to what the characters are really saying)...

What are the best speakers you have ever listened to

pink: Yeah, the RM2's are great, superb sound quality. True world class sound for a price that is very reasonable. He puts all the money into the speakers themselves, little, if anything, is spent on advertising. You don't need to advertise when you get the kind of glowing reviews from new...

What are the best speakers you have ever listened to

The best I've ever heard are VMPS RM2 speakers. Very detailed sound, every subtle nuance of a performance comes through, incredible granularity. And also very smooth, no harshness to the sound. And I'm very happy to say these are also the speakers we have in our stereo system.

    2nd SVS PB12/plus 2 or JL Audio Fathom 113

I'd get the SVS PB2-Plus, superb peformance for a very reasonable price. They look great and are built solid as a rock. :) And if you get one in the textured black finish, the cabinet is also made right here in the U.S. :)

DVD Review HTF DVD Review: Blade Runner: Five-Disc Ultimate Collector's Edition

Thanks for the interesting info. :) I'm certainly very much in favor of the idea of presenting the 3 earlier cuts of Blade Runner (the original U.S. theatrical version, the international version and the director's cut) without any revisionism in terms of their color timing and so on. It's just...

Check out the VMPS 626 Jr. stand mounted speakers, the designer and builder of these excellent speakers has a sale on them now at $975 a pair to celebrate 30 years of making speakers. VMPS, in case you hadn't heard of this brand, makes some of the highest quality speakers around, and yet still...

DVD Review HTF DVD Review: Blade Runner: Five-Disc Ultimate Collector's Edition

What I don't understand is why the overall image quality is excellent on the original U.S. theatrical version, the international version and the director's cut, but not quite as good as this final cut. Why is there any image quality difference between these versions? When the restoration was...

Ken, how does the overall image quality (clarity, detail, etc.) of the original U.S. theatrical version, the international version and the director's cut compare to the final cut version (not counting the scenes that were recently filmed just for use in the final cut)? Also, is the color timing...

dvdvision: I realize it was the DVD set that was reviewed, which I mentioned twice in that post. But that has nothing to do with why all the cuts of the film wouldn't look equally good in terms of overall image quality, regardless of whether all the cuts of the movie being reviewed were on DVD...

    PB12 NSD/V-new sub for me!

Yeah, I'm sure that subwoofer is very impressive! :) If I had to guess at what the cost would be for a new one from SVS today, I'd say about $750. And worth every cent. :)

SVS PB2-Plus Test and Review - Long

There have been some odd discrepancies in Ilkka's measurements of the new 12.3 Plus woofer compared to the 12.2 version, but that may be due to the kinds of tests that Ilkka runs. If I recall correctly, Ilkka tends to use bass test signals that last quite a bit longer than the kind of bass peaks...

    PB12 NSD/V-new sub for me!

The PB1-ISD/V is one of the best deals you can get in a SVS subwoofer (which is saying something). It uses the larger PB1-Plus subwoofer cabinet, but has an ISD woofer instead of a Plus woofer. This allows the ISD woofer to really show what it can do for the minimum cost, it's a great idea...

The official BLADE RUNNER SE thread. (Check out page 8 and #790.)

Why can't we just get the Blade Runner music without all these voices stuck in there? In some songs like "Tears in Rain" it fits better than most, but we should have an option to listen to the music with and without voices and sound effects, etc. Vangelis makes a new Blade Runner theme album...
