    Blu-ray Review To Catch a Thief Blu-ray Review (2020)

Seeing the alchemy Paramount was able to accomplish with this, and what Warners did with North by Northwest some time ago, it's sad that Universal wasn't able to invest in cleaning up The Man Who Knew Too Much before bringing it to blu-ray. It's one of the more under-rated of his films, IMHO...

Blu-ray Review Police Squad! The Complete Series Blu-ray Review

It's a shame the Naked Gun blu ray set didn't get new transfers, or add any new content, or even bring over the commentary tracks from the DVDs.

Press Release Paramount Presents: Airplane! (1980) (Blu-ray) Available for Preorder

Indeed. I also can't imagine too many people watching the film with just the score soundtrack, and I'm a soundtrack buff.

Pre-Order Paramount Presents: To Catch A Thief (Blu-ray) Available for Preorder

Universal also dropped the excellent Vertigo commentary track featuring Robert Harris and cast and crew from the older release and exchanged it on the Blu ray with a really poor commentary track by William Friedkin.

Pre-Order Paramount Presents: To Catch A Thief (Blu-ray) Available for Preorder

So this re-release is more expensive than the current Blu ray and is missing many special features? I also think the original blu ray looks great, better than any of the Universal Hitchcock VistaVision releases. I also still remember that it took Paramount THREE DVD releases before they were...

UHD James Bond films in Ultra HD blu Ray?

I doubt that EON would authorize it, and even if they did, they would want full control of the content. When Criterion released the first three films, LaserDisc was a tiny market compared to VHS and I'm sure EON learned their lesson after that commentary debacle.

UHD James Bond films in Ultra HD blu Ray?

That may well be the case, but one wonders why MGM/Fox chose to fully re-do TWSLM (which they did beautifully, far better than Lowry did with it) but chose to pull an ancient and sub-par master from the shelf for Goldeneye. I also wonder if MGM/Fox should have a go at re-doing some of the lesser...

UHD James Bond films in Ultra HD blu Ray?

I'm not sure if that's true. The older master (used as late as the Ultimate Edition DVD) had a framing issue that was rectified for the Blu-Ray.

UHD James Bond films in Ultra HD blu Ray?

I'm not sure how much better it can be. I remember it looking pretty ugly when it was released. From what I remember, it was shot at least partly on old film stock to save money that gave it a grainy look with sub-standard contrast.

    A Few Words About A few words about...™ Poltergeist 2 & 3 -- in Blu-ray

Just ordered Poltergeist 3, as apparently it's going out of print soon, to complete my collection. I haven't seen it since it was released on VHS and I don't remember much of it. Looking forward to seeing it again.

I hope we'll soon see Huston's Night of the Iguana on Blu ray from WAC.

    A Few Words About A few words about...™ 42nd Street -- in Blu-ray

I picked this up a few weeks ago and was incredibly impressed with the job WAC did with it. I truly felt like I was seeing it for the first time. It's hard to believe it was filmed almost 90 years ago! I usually favour MGM's musicals, but Warner's rough-around-the edged aesthetic really gave it...

No 4K release for Gone With The Wind's 80th Anniversary?

They may be from the same year, but they are very different productions. As I understand it, any gains from upgrading GWTW to 4K would be mainly offset by deficiencies that would become apparent due to the nature of the production (such as film stock, lower light cinematography, and number of...

A Few Words About A few words about...™ The Poseidon Adventure -- in Blu-ray

Thanks. I'm in Canada and rarely use the Amazon US site; strange that the blu ray was listed under "multi format" instead of "blu ray". I ended up getting finding it on the Canadian Best Buy site.

A Few Words About A few words about...™ The Poseidon Adventure -- in Blu-ray

I'd be interested in the link. Most of the ones I'm seeing on Amazon Canada and US are Region 2 imports. The main point of my post was that it seems to have gone OOP.

A Few Words About A few words about...™ The Poseidon Adventure -- in Blu-ray

Does anyone know if this is set for a re-release (maybe a 4K upgrade?) It seems to be hard to get ahold of at the moment.

I wonder if the series will end up at the Warner Archive.

    That's Entertainment

TE2 lacks the focus of the original. Including comedy clips and seemingly jumping from clip to clip randomly gets frustrating after a while, despite the presence of Astaire and Kelly. The opening credits are fun, though.

    That's Entertainment

I hope when they do a 4K upgrade that they would go back and reassemble the films using clips from the individual remastered films, as many have had solid upgrades. The clips as they appear in the film are quite outdated, and I don't think would much improved (even of they had the OCN available)...

Press Release Criterion Press Release: Now Voyager (Blu-ray)

Indeed; I'm still hoping we'll get The Star (1952), a slightly campy and tawdry film that has many surface similarities to All About Eve, sooner rather than later.

A Few Words About A few words about...™ Sweet Charity - in Blu-ray

Another terrible commentary is the one for VERTIGO by William Friedkin. His connection to Hitchcock and the film is tenuous at best, and he appears to know very little. He also sounds bored or like he just rolled out of bed. I'm holding on to my old DVD (the one where they made poor Jimmy...

A Few Words About A few words about...™ Sweet Charity - in Blu-ray

I listened to about 30 minutes of the commentary tonight and was pretty disappointed. There was a lot of stating of the obvious and apparently reading actors filmographies on IMDb. I also found the commentators' voice extremely hard to listen to.

A Few Words About A few words about...™ Sweet Charity - in Blu-ray

I've just watched the first third of the blu ray, and it's really a visual stunner. I really don't this looked better in 1969, at least maybe outside the big cities. Just perfect.

A Few Words About A few words about...™ Sweet Charity - in Blu-ray

This is all good news indeed. I'm still a little surprised that Universal / Kino ponied up the money for an actual 4K restoration, given the relatively small fanbase the film has. I don't know if I would actually call the film "very old" though, but that may be because I am from 1969 myself.
