Indeed its not I have the book'The Tale of South Pacific' a book tie in published I guess at about the time the film was released it shows Joe cable escaping from the hospital with his bomber jacket on,meeting Emile and Nellie before he takes it off and Nellie asks him why he is out of the...
I hope we get 4k BD releases of all the Rodgers and Hammerstein films, although I dont suppose that will be possible with the 1945 film of 'State Fair' I think the ordinary BD release took that as far as possible given the orginal technology it was filmed it in.
yes thats true but wasn't sure if they could somehow colorize it they have color photos of the actual color broadcast to match the colors, did you know there is a least another kinescope of the show which was made as dress rehearsal? would love to have that on video too
Mine too along with 'Allegro'; 'State Fair'; 'Cinderella'; 'Pipe Dream' &'Me and Juliet'. Flower Drum Song was R&H's greatest musical comedy so I am guilty of heresy as well!!
Great to hear perhaps this is how they are going to release the Blu ray edition the CinemaScope version of Oklahoma! on Blu ray starts with the Samuel Goldwyn logo!
Yes Pipe Dream was the only one of their shows to lose money they put up the entire cost of that show themselves and lost it. Even what is considered today one of their relative failures 'Me and Juliet' was not at the time it again like 'Allegro' paid its costs off and made a profit even the...
Julie Andrews of course was chosen for the film of The Sound of Music because of her connection to Rodgers & Hammerstein through Cinderella, if you watch her in Cinderella it almost a blue print for her doing Sound of Music later on
Yes Julie Andrews would have been in Pipe Dream had she not been asked to do what became My Fair Lady she auctioned for Rodgers very early on in her career. When she told Rodgers about fair lady he advised her to do it (not knowing then) whether it would be a success or not. Both he and...
I have written to Universal asking whether they intend to release FLOWER DRUM SONG on to blu ray format pointing out that it is the last of the Rodgers & Hammerstein films not to be on it. Even State Fair 1962 is now on blur ray from Twilight Movies.
Yes The King and I was written for Gertrude Lawrence at her behest she first approached Cole Porter who turned her down before she asked Rodgers & Hammerstein.
Does any one know if any of the deleted songs in The King and I and Carousel still exist? I know 'I Have Dreamed' was filmed but cut...
