A Few Words About A few words about…™ Annie Get Your Gun – in Blu-ray

I completely agree (and there was certainly no excuse for the pre-release version of BIG SLEEP being an SD extra!) but at the same time, if the stuff isn't in HD, they don't have a choice unless they want to leave them off entirely. It's not up to them whether or not they adhere to the specs...

I'm of two minds about it. If they don't upgrade the bonus features to 1080p, they sort of don't have a choice. The reason the outtakes for BALLGAME looked so good is because they WERE new HD scans, even the cartoon and the trailer. I "get" why they can't always do new scans of bonus...

That's because Warner insists on keeping the special features ported over from DVD (for the most part) in SD. Blu-ray specs don't allow SD material to be progressively encoded at 24fps so they're forced to interlace them at 30fps/60hz. That's why they look so lousy on blu-ray. They look much...

Apologies in advance for thread-crapping but you just described every movie Betty Hutton ever made....

I think it was just a mistake, but not one they were willing to spend the money to correct since it was just an extra.

Well, not to derail the thread too much, but that's a case of the short also being sourced (for some strange reason) from an entirely different and vastly inferior element on the FALCON blu-ray vs what was on the DVD. (I still scratch my head over that one.)

Not to be "that' guy, sir, but what you mean to say is that blu-rays don't support SD content progressively transferred at 24fps (as DVDs do) and forces it to appear interlaced on blu-ray at 30fps/60hz. This is why the DVD counterparts of SD content are almost always more desirable.

The Medved brothers claimed, in one of their books, that the one-two punch of STAR! and DARLING LILI tanking in a big way is what ultimately put the kaibosh on it. Do we know if that's true?

It feels a little on the nose to be pure coincidence but thanks for the response about "Johnny." Now the Dalton Trumbo title makes more sense, too!

A Few Words About A few words about…™ Annie Get Your Gun – in Blu-ray

I have a silly question perhaps someone might be able to answer for me. I've tried to find the answer but to no avail. Where does the title "Annie Get Your Gun" come from? Was it a well known phrase at the time the show premiered? I ask because there's a 1940 Warner Bros mystery movie...

I'm sorry but I just noticed this. While I appreciate your enthusiasm, Philip, why full-priced? Anything you pay between the wholesale rate and the "out the door" price benefits the middleman and has no bearing on what the content producer gets. Or do you just mean you won't wait for a sale?
