    DLP "Dead Pixel"?

Yeah, the proliferation of dead pixels was what started occurring the last time; I'm sure it'll happen again. But in any case, one pixel is one too many. I was really hoping this would be the unit to last a good while until the amount of quality 4K material hit my personal tipping point...

    DLP "Dead Pixel"?

Found out today that LG will force you to pay for the same repair THREE TIMES before replacing your unit or reimbursing you for its cost.

    DLP "Dead Pixel"?

So, the terrible saga continues. Did an out of warranty repair for $160+. Got the projector back. All good until two months out of warranty; guess what? Another dead pixel appears. LG says “too bad, another $160 or more”. And apparently they offer nothing to protect against having to do this...

So, having skimmed, that thread seems to focus on integrated systems and hasn't been updated since 2015.

Thanks! I'll admit, I might have been trying to avoid skimming through the longer thread... You caught me!

Hello there! I'm looking to finally get a CarPlay capable head unit for our VW. I don't care about wireless; so, what's the best of the last generation of models? What are you all using? Thanks!

4k Projectors Buyers and Owners Thread

This thread has been very illuminating. <rimshot> But seriously, I'm glad this popped up in my HTF email. I'm in the same place as el presidente Ron on this one.

    DLP "Dead Pixel"?

Yeah, I plan to do that on Monday. I was hoping against hope that someone had a "magic bullet" solution for this problem, but I realize it's quite different from a stuck pixel in an LCD. :(

    DLP "Dead Pixel"?

So, let's say a "friend of mine" bought an LG DLP LED projector last year which just recently went out of warranty. Now let's say that last week that projector developed a bright, white pixel right in the sweet spot of the image. Just how screwed would my "friend" be?

I had to choose! (LG PF1500)

Saddest Update: It seems the talk of extended warranties was, well, warranted. I'm about two months past warranty and I've got a "dead pixel". I gather that this is actually due to a faulty micro-mirror, since this is a DLP rig. So, anyone got a good friend at LG?

I had to choose! (LG PF1500)

I've been using a trusty 106" Da-Lite Cinema Contour for about a (wow) decade now. One of the best investments I've ever made. I'm not sure what the first film I watched on it was (probably something streaming) but the first Blu-Ray was Miami Vice. It's one of my favorite not-guilty pleasures.

I had to choose! (LG PF1500)

I did my best via the Digital Essentials blu-ray process. I'm quite happy with the results, but thankfully I've never been cursed with the eyes of a videophile or the ears of an audiophile.

I'm sort of tempted to unfollowed my own thread.

I had to choose! (LG PF1500)

I did not. I rarely do for most things. I don't want to sound like I'm made of money (I'm mostly carbon and water) but this is the first projector I've owned where the cost of replacement isn't too horrible. That said, I hope for it to last quite some time.

I had to choose! (LG PF1500)

I use Game Mode for most of my viewing (a mix of streaming media and actual games) to reduce the lag from 170 milliseconds to 70. The TruMotion setting isn't available in Game Mode, which is fine since I don't use it anyway. If I'm going to watch a blu-ray, I switch to Cinema and there I have...

BTW, my Harmony 720 works perfectly. Powers on and off like a charm. So, certainly not limited to bluetooth. And I'm using the Samsung iPhone app to make any adjustments to the projector while watching. The Magic Remote is put away.

I had to choose! (LG PF1500)

I'll look at my settings and pass along the numbers, Stephen. I used the Digital Video Essentials blu-ray to get my results and I'm quite happy with them. I've basically ignored all the onboard apps. I doubt my receiver supports HMDI ARC and I didn't feel like stringing a toslink audio cable...

I had to choose! (LG PF1500)

I'll try testing the Magic remote again to see if the power function is pure bluetooth or not. But I'll only do so out of curiosity, since those codes for the PF85u worked! Thanks for the suggestion. Time to get that Harmony programmed.

I had to choose! (LG PF1500)

Thanks, Steve. I'll try the PF85u codes. Heck of a place to put that IR dot though, huh? I downloaded the LG app to my phone. It's got some good utility (for changing settings without needing to fish out the Magic remote) but it can't turn on the device. Hopefully I get my Harmony working!

I had to choose! (LG PF1500)

It was a long day of installation and (amateur) calibration. This thing is very tricky to mount in an asymmetrical room. I was forced to use a small measure of keystone correction, but it doesn't appear to have ruined the image. Sam: Seems plenty bright for my purposes, even on maximum power...

I had to choose! (LG PF1500)

Sam, 3D was not a consideration for me. I believe the euro version of this device features 3D, but I'm a simple, two dimensional kind of guy. As soon as I get my hands on the thing, I'll post some impressions.

I had to choose! (LG PF1500)

I felt it was time to choose between investing in 4K in the monitor realm or opting for BIG SCREEN ALL THE TIME via an LED projector. Today, I decided on the latter. I'm eagerly awaiting my PF1500 from LG. Once installed, my trusty Philips HDTV (which I've used to offset projector lamp...
