Pre-Order Gamera: The Complete Collection (Blu-ray) Available for Preorder

There's a bit of a history here. The negative and fine-grain of Gammera The Invincible are at the UCLA Film & TV archive, and were used for the 1999 letterboxed VHS release from Neptune Media. When Shout! Factory released the Gamera series on DVD a little over a decade ago, they tried to gain...

3D Petition to Restore and Release WB 3D Classic

With the track record of success these kind of petitions have, this will surely succeed, just like the rest of them, particularly since home video sales are at an all-time high, and not at all on a year-to-year precipitous decline.

A Few Words About While we wait for A few words about...™ Lawrence of Arabia -- in 4k/UHD Blu-ray

I have heard serious claims, from individuals who can be taken seriously, that much more film and video related material was also destroyed in this fire than has been disclosed, in particular the original materials (camera negatives, original videotape) for many TV shows. This article, and the...

    "The Alamo"s Status?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't that print used on the laser (and subsequently ruined) not actually the proper roadshow cut, but more like a preview version?

Pre-Order Flesh Gordon (1974) (Blu-ray) Available for Preorder

The press release touts: Gamma Ray Digital did the restoration on Arrow's "The Hills Have Eyes", which looks excellent for being old blow-up negatives of 16mm, so this could actually look decent

    A Few Words About A few words about...™ Warlock & Bandolero! -- in Blu-ray

I wonder how much of the "teal" look in all these scans of 50's Fox titles (I think most of these are being done by Cineric, I know at least Bigger Than Life, Bus Stop, and the Cinemascope 55 titles were done by them) is actually a conscious decision, or more a case of the cyan dye layer in...

What is your final format ?

I think I will continue to upgrade my personal top twenty or so films, if upgrades appear, but for everything else, upgrading beyond Blu-Ray isn't essential. Having seen Blu-Ray projected on an actual theater screen (an Alamo Drafthouse with Sony 4k projectors), and having been shocked at how...

Has John Ford's "The Long Grey Line" ever been considered for release? There's a 4K DCP available, so I'm sure it could look as good as the other Sony 4K restorations from the 50's that you've released.

    Aspect Ratio Documentation

Cinemascope was shown in Japan almost from the start, with THE ROBE opening in two Toho-owned theaters in Tokyo and Osaka in December 1953. Cinemascope actually came to Japan before Cinerama, which didn't premiere there until 1955.

A Few Words About While we wait for A few words about...™ Lawrence of Arabia -- in 4k/UHD Blu-ray

It's doubly annoying when you take in to account that the digital versions of IMAX also use two projectors stacked together, yet I've never seen a double image issue in any of the digital IMAX shows I've seen.

The Dolby Cinema showings I've seen have had the issue of double-images on the screen, killing any real detail. For the premium they charge, that's unacceptable to me.

A Few Words About While we wait for A few words about...™ Lawrence of Arabia -- in 4k/UHD Blu-ray

One of the worst phenomenon to afflict digital projection has been those damned Sony 3D adapter lenses, which have been used extensively by the AMC theaters in my area. They function by showing each eye in a quadrant of the 4k LcOS panel, and then the adapter lens projects each eye onto the...

    2001: A Space Odyssey is a 4K/UHD Release possible?

With the amount of misinformation being spread about these two completely separate products (the new prints and upcoming UHD disc), would it not be sensible to sticky at the top of each page of this thread a complete, accurate breakdown of what the UHD and new prints are based on?

A Few Words About A few words about...™ Fistful of Dollars -- in Blu-ray

Has anyone from L'Immagine Ritrovata ever gone on record as to why so many of the films they work on end up looking like this? Blu-ray Review Journey to the Center of the Earth (1959) Blu-ray Review

Do the separations that this film was restored from have focus issues? It's not unheard of for separation masters to have been printed out of focus (as RAH has said about the seps for "The Alamo", for example), which could account for the soft look of the transfer and resultant Blu-Ray.

    A Few Words About A few words about...™ Von Ryan's Express -- in Blu-ray

According to an article in the Nov. 2009 issue of Post magazine, this film received a full 4k restoration (scanned from the OCN A & B rolls on a wetgate-equipped Imagica), performed by IVC in Burbank. If these colors on the Blu-Ray are the result of that work, either there was something horribly...

A Few Words About A few words about...™ The Man Who Knew Too Much -- in Blu-ray

In this hypothetical budget for "Man", are we digitally aligning a scan of the faded camera negative with a scan of the blue separation positive (as was done with "North By Northwest" and a good chunk of "The Ten Commandments"), or using solely the separations?

I would like to thank the Regal Fairfax Town Center for providing me with an experience that led to me walking out of a film and demanding a refund for only the second time in my life. A few words about...™ The First Nudie Musical -- in Blu-ray

I'm curious, how did this CRI survive with usable color, while so many others faded so rapidly? I seem to recall other mentions of CRI's remaining usable here and there; were there wide variations in how different labs processed CRI's?
