The trend of making 4K releases retailer exclusive is worrying to me.
As for the movie, I wanted to see it (even though it's been a long time since I've seen the show) but I just didn't get around to it. I haven't had time to see anything since Dr. Strange 2.
It's not new. I remember getting super frustrated because I was interrupted watching Men in Black on blu ray multiple times and kept having to start over from the chapters menu. It's always a frustration.
Haha, I have that one and The Majestic, for sure. Can't remember any others off the top of my head. But Arsenic is the last one I bought, well after the initial release.
It's been a while since the MST3K episode came out, so it's nice to see it get an HD debut. I'm not big on this title, myself, but any Corman/AIP flicks that make it to blu ray are a win in my book.
To be fair, only a handful of scenes take place anywhere besides the house's drawing room, so that probably helped a lot. If it were made today, there would definitely be a lot more locations and we'd absolutely be shown the basement. It's a testament to Capra that he keeps everything visually...
Yeah, I think Massey did just great, but it's so obvious that the Karloff bit is intended as a meta-joke that it would have been perfect if he'd been allowed in the film.
Put one in for Merrily We Live with a pre-order for Jack and the Beanstalk. (Yes, I'll just wait for them to ship together, haha.) Looking forward to seeing both of them for the first time.
I'm mainly tempted to get this because the box set is so darned poorly designed and really unattractive, so I hadn't picked it up yet.
But what I'll probably do is wait and see if a more appealing box comes out after Mangold's film is released.
Not to disagree, but this is exactly the kind of movie I can see getting a 4K upgrade. It's got a cult following among 80s nerds who still buy physical media and has managed to stay at least on the edge of the conversation with movies like WarGames for years. It may not have top-tier...
But what we've seen with films that have fallen into public domain is that a company will pay to access the original/best film elements, even when the copyright is not an issue.
Don't get me wrong, I'm actually okay with there being some negotiation for studios to be able to donate their...
Copyright is such a sticky wicket. Personally, I am of the opinion that its been stretched far beyond its original intent, and should be stopped where it is or pared down. Are Mickey Mouse, Superman and the like still very profitable enterprises for the companies that hold them? Absolutely. But...
Oh, Gunn’s movie was infinitely superior. The first SS movie might be the worst of the current DC films, and that’s not pretty.
The thing about the BO is that not many people saw the film in theaters (though I was one of them) but a whole lotta folks watched on HBOMAX and then watched...
I really enjoyed this one and will be picking it up, but I'll be the first to admit that without Raimi providing his visual panache and narrative propulsion, it would be a complete mess.
Ghostbusters as a wee lad on VHS, complete with the flapped box. In fact, it was also my first DVD and blu ray purchase, as well.
(My first 4K was Deadpool. C-c-c-c-combo breaker!)
