What Forgotten Films do you want on Blu ray or 4K?

Dragonslayer Enchanted April The Secret Garden (90's version) And a properly remastered version of "Secret of NIHM" (existing blu-ray is sub-par IMO). While we at it. How about a properly remastered version of the Prince of Egypt (again, existing blu-ray is sub-par).

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - Eternals -- in 4k UHD

I think the criticism of "too dark" is particular to the HDR color grading on the 4K release (both D+ and physical). There's a good chance that SDR blu-ray editions (3D or 2D) will look better.

Press Release Warner Archive Collection Press Release: The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm (1962) (Blu-ray)

The only negative is that this isn't being released right away on 4K UHD... but I'll still buy the blu-ray and be grateful and hopefully good sales will encourage the studio to release in true 4K down the road.

    JVC announces $7k DLA-NP5 entry-level 4K projector

Yeah good point... the new NZ series pretty much lock on to any signal changes within a second or two (or so it seems) which I've heard is a big improvement over the HDMI signal change delays on the NX line (which only became a problem after one of the later updates I heard).

    JVC announces $7k DLA-NP5 entry-level 4K projector

Hey Folks, Just an FYI that this is really nothing more than the former NX5 with updated HDMI 2.1 as it can now display 4K120Hz. So if you're really interested in 4K120 gaming and you'd like to game on the same projector that you watch movies on, it's a decent fit (lag is also lower than the...

    JVC announces $7k DLA-NP5 entry-level 4K projector

Yes, both the former JVCs and this new series do fantastic 3D ($100 for the separate RF emitter you need to buy, and of course 3D glasses). I have the NZ8 that shared much of the same optics as this model (with laser instead of bulb) and the 3D is vivid, ghost-free, and spectacular. In fact, I...

    Sidney Poitier R.I.P. at 94

When you think of the courageous agents for change during the civil rights era... you had those risking their careers and lives taking political action and protesting for social justice. And you also had people who touched our social consciousness in more subtle, yet often profound ways through...

Should "Classic" Films be released on 4K/UHD?

If that's the case then yes, that negates my comparison (I had thought I had read somewhere that the same transfer/master was used to source both, but maybe I'm mistaken... or maybe the source that I read was mistaken). If someone has a good suggestion of a BD vs 4KUHD that are indeed struck...

Should "Classic" Films be released on 4K/UHD?

I suspect that more mid/lower-budget source material (if properly handled) can benefit from 4K presentation, though the results may often be subtle (but still meaningful for those who care). For example, in my home-theater I sit 10 feet away from my 106" diagonal (8 feet wide) 16x9 screen. I...

Home Theater United Episode 32 - Adrian Silva of Stewart Filmscreen

Just to help answer a question that came up in the pod-cast about scope-screens and resolution loss with different content... If you have a projector that has lens-memory (like the JVCs), and if you use the lens-adjustment to zoom in/out to "fit" the content to the screen... then you are not...

JVC Press Release: New JVC Laser Projectors Are World’s First With 48Gbps 8K Inputs

Hey George, can you provide some detail around the emitter and glasses you have that work well with the legacy NX series (I had read that the polarization of the earlier 1080p models changed with the latest round of native 4K units from JVC and so different eyewear worked better). Unless JVC...

JVC Press Release: New JVC Laser Projectors Are World’s First With 48Gbps 8K Inputs

Yes. the NX7 and NX9 are discontinued, and remaining stock is all that is left (no more being manufactured). It sounded like they may keep making the NX5 for a short time longer until enough chips are available for them to replace that with an HDMI 2.1 upgraded version of basically the same...

JVC Press Release: New JVC Laser Projectors Are World’s First With 48Gbps 8K Inputs

Same on/off measurement process as with your RS540. The reason the contrast is so much less on these new "state of the art" JVC PJs is because of the native 4K chips... basically the reduced fill factor (more pixels means more "gaps" between them too so less reflective surface area overall)...

Blu-ray Review A Few Words About A few words about…™ Coraline & The Box Trolls (Shout! releases) – in Blu-ray

Coraline in 3D is an artistic experience that has always stayed with me. Surreal, imaginative, unsettling, evocative. When I upgrade to a new 3D JVC laser projector in the next few months, this will be the first 3D title that I watch.

While we wait for A few words about...™ In the Heights -- in 4k UHD Blu-ray

I saw this film in the theater this past weekend (4K digital projection) which was the first (and only) film I've seen in a theater since COVID. Astounding.

International Arrow Video Press Release: DUNE (1984) (4K UHD)

personally disagree. Sure, not it's not everyone's cup of tea (no movie is) but personally, despite the criticism, I find it brilliant, beautiful, and engaging every time I watch it. One of my top movies by far (i.e. movie I have to have with me on my proverbial desert island).

Press Release Criterion Press Release: Original Cast Album: "Company" (1970) (Blu-ray)

Merrily We Roll Along had me utterly transported... like someone had uncovered an entirely new subject matter to explore musically, and invented a new musical genre in order to explore it, the delivery seemed to be intended to speak directly to me. The impact had me weeping in a way seldom...

Musicals and/or movies-with-notable-soundtracks that could really use a stereo mix, but remain available in mono only

Would love to have Cabaret released with a proper stereo/multi-channel soundtrack on blu-ray... the existing 5.1 just sounds like "spacialized" mono and the sound quality of the musical numbers are clearly sub-par in comparison to the LP/CD soundtrack and there is no high frequency extension...

Pre-Order The Snoopy 4-Movie Collection (Blu-ray) Available for Preorder

Been waiting for several of these to show up on Blu-ray for years... this was a nice surprise to wake up to this morning. I also was a bit taken aback by the price, but with four films, as another poster also said, that's less than $12 per movie. Not bad at all (and yes, I lived through the days...

A Few Words About A few words about...™ Singin' in the Rain -- in Blu-ray

Agree with RAH 100%. The image is spectacular (especially given the lack of original negatives for a first-generation scan). Simply breathtaking, and utterly film-like.

A Few Words About A few words about...™ The Lord of the Rings Trilogy - Extended Edition -- in Blu-ray

I wondered the same thing as well. I'm sure that the former title being mastered to 35mm film had to incur a price to the color spectrum, and now that we're getting a "direct digital" path, the variables are different and color should look slightly different even without manual tweaking.

A Few Words About A few words about...™ The Lord of the Rings Trilogy - Extended Edition -- in Blu-ray

WB has forbidden screen-captures of their DVD and blu-ray discs for some time now... well before LOTR EE. It's been a challenge for the folks at blu-ray.com who's reviews (now, other than WB titles) were always direct rips off the disc. This isn't a new change by the studio per this title...
