LOL. That same article quotes Costner saying that he doesn't like Westerns! I mean, he certainly praised the extended cut back in the 1990s. If he has now changed his mind and wants that version suppressed, it would explain why it's not available for digital purchase.
I know this thread has temporarily been derailed on a tangent, but... wherever this mysterious quote from Costner (which is also included on IMBD) that he had no involvement with the extended cut, I'm guessing it's missing some context like maybe he was saying he wasn't the actual person who...
Oh, and a word of warning, iTunes is the only platform that has The Tin Star in HD, so those who prefer Vudu or Amazon, don’t buy it anywhere but iTunes.
Even though you're asking me, I think you really want to know Crawdaddy's opinion which happens to agree with mine that it is one of Anthony Mann's best Westerns, and it was also shot it VistaVision and the iTunes version is a new remaster in HD and looks really, really good. It's never been on...
Yeah, the three you mention I already have the Blu-rays, but I was including them because I thought others might be interested at that price. I’ll definitely snap up the other 5 you recommend. ;)
Generally these sales are same old, same old. Today’s Tuesday lot has some new stuff. Three of the classic Disney True-life adventures are on sale for the first time ever at $4.99 each (also some of the newer DisneyNature films if you care about those, I don’t, just the 50’s and 60’s ones...
Yeah, there is no HD version available at any of the digital retailers. The Warner Archive Blu-ray is the only game in town and anyone who is fan of the movie should get it.
I also snapped up Liberty Valence in 4K. And for Marilyn Monroe completists, Monkey Business is on sale. It’s never been on Blu-ray, and according to Cheap Charts, the last time it was on sale was 2018!
We know for sure that SD purchases do NOT upgrade to HD under any circumstance. Anyway, the future-proofing Neil was referring to was the for the Studio, not his contemplated purchase.
It was 55 minutes in before Randolph Scott even showed up and he's the main reason I bought it. The picture and sound quality were also quite lacking making it hard for me to understand a lot of the dialog. This was put out by Olive back in 2016 before Paramount upped their game with quality...
Strangely, your non-recommendation actually helped me to go ahead and pull the trigger. I’ll watch it with all the other holiday-themed movies I have planned for this month.
“Christmas Eve” is on sale for the first time for $4.99. I don’t believe it is actually a Christmas movie, but can anyone recommend it? I’ve not seen it.
The Frogmen (1951) is on sale ($4.99) for the first time since it came out about 5 years ago, and has never been on Blu-ray. Is it any good? An all star cast about an Underwater Demolition Team during WWII.
Will I ever learn? When you see a bargain, buy it instantly. Last night I noticed Freaks and Geeks on sale for $4.99, and I thought, I’ll have to grab that tomorrow. Either the price was an error or the volume of purchases prompted iTunes to decide it was too good a deal as approximately 12...
Oliver! on sale for $5.99 on iTunes but don’t buy it yet! It hasn’t upgraded to 4K and it won’t import into Movies Anywhere in 4K if you buy it now. And you’ll need access in 4K at Vudu if you want atmos sound.
Ugh. I hate these "backsies" games iTunes plays. I understand when they break a street date that is supposed to coincide with a 4K disc release, but Ragtime isn't being released on 4K disc, so why did they pull it back? Hopefully the 4K streaming will come back when the 2K disc is released...
All three Gidget movies are on sale for $4.99 each for those so-inclined (not going to admit whether that includes me :D) it’s the first time the two sequels have been on sale, and neither of them have ever been on Blu-ray. The first movie was of course a Twilight Time release.
So, looking through the list of Friday sale titles, of course I get the tie-in. Lots of Sean Connery, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig movies on sale. Heck, even a couple of Timothy Dalton movies. But not seeing any Roger Moore movies on sale. That’s just rude.
The only reason Neil has the longer cut is because he downloaded it BEFORE Apple switched it out. Which is the point we have been making to people who are paranoid about losing their digital purchases. If you download the file, they let you keep it forever. But sadly there is no way to preserve...
I foolishly passed on the Star Trek 10 film bundle last year when it was $19.99 because there was no indication at that time that 4K was on the horizon, and I thought it was a waste of money as I already owned the exact same transfers on Blu-ray. But then when 4K was announced I was kicking...
