Oppo Releases UDP-203 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Player

I did some more reading. 1.4 cables can be used with 2.0 ports. Sending 1080p content through a 1080p chain should not be a problem. Where an issue can arise is if a signal with HDCP 2.2 protection is sent to a non-2.2 enabled device over 2.0 cables. It won't work. Thus older 1080p sets and...

Oppo Releases UDP-203 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Player

From reading the specs, it certainly looks like it would support older standards. It has an audio-only 1.4 HDMI port to support older receivers and will play standard and 3D Blus. It also has an HDR to SDR conversion function so it looks like it will downconvert UHD disks, even though it escapes...

Oppo Releases UDP-203 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Player

I can picture it now. SONY: We are pleased to announce the release of our 8K UUHD televisions. Sam Posten: Mine arrives tomorrow.

Oppo Releases UDP-203 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Player

The other thing I'm wondering is what the differences would be between the upcoming 205 model and this one?

Oppo Releases UDP-203 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Player

Thanks for the info. Still trying to decide if I want to spend 900 Canadian on a Blu-ray player. At one time it would have been a no brainer. Plus I keep toying with the idea of a new sub. My old Mirage BPSS-210 seems to be having a few problems handling lower frequencies on these 4K discs. The...

Oppo Releases UDP-203 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Player

Is this player region free? I might consider it if it allows me to play my R2 DVDs, as well as region free playback of all current Blu-ray formats.

Oppo Releases UDP-203 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Player

If that is the case then it's all good. The Samsung player wasn't that good at converting HDR for my older set.

Oppo Releases UDP-203 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Player

If it is sold out, and not a glitch, then the anticipation for this must have been huge.

Oppo Releases UDP-203 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Player

That is not the case. 4K discs downscale on 1080P displays. I tried it on my my Panny VT 30. The real issue is with the HDR. On my non-HDR capable set the picture was darker and blacks were massively crushed. A lot of detail in darker areas was lost. On Star Trek Beyond, for example, the stars...

Oppo Releases UDP-203 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Player

That looks like one nice player. Makes me wish I hadn't bought the Samsung, but 721 Canadian before shipping and taxes leaves me on the outside looking through the shop window.
