George also mentioned in that podcast that a classic title is coming out on 4K disc which will include the mono soundtrack which was absent on the Blu-ray release. My guess is that he’s referring to Singin’ in the Rain , although The Band Wagon also fits the parameters.

It was on my wishlist too! MGM Technicolor musicals don’t have to be good for me want them. :)

2 out of the 5 for me. A rare month where I don’t commit to the whole slate.

Well that’s a heck of an attitude. There are people in other threads bemoaning the fact that an old recycled Blu-ray accompanies the spiffy new 4K disc. Do you say to them leave the Blu-ray discs as ugly as possible to steer everyone to 4K discs?

Yeah, I’m skeptical about that as well. But if, by remote chance, WAC is actually changing their release model to include digital copies, it would be an attempt to nudge the market towards digital distribution. Included codes, probably wouldn’t guarantee the digital retailers would actually...

It makes zero sense to me why anybody would buy that standard definition DVD when there has been a HD digital version available for sale since 2018, but people still buy them anyway!

The Yearling is confirmed in today’s Warner Archive Podcast, which by the way is the final podcast, and apparently is unedited as it contained all the gaffes and start-overs. I would say all those YouTube clips are probably next month’s releases, and whoever handles the YouTube channel slightly...

Well, that's the way to celebrate April Fools Day! Those clips are all real, and demonstrate brand new restorations. I would say, maybe the folks at Warner Archive decided to break with tradition and give us a peek at what's in the pipeline right now.

I finally got to see it, as it was among the titles I picked up at the final 4-for-44 sale. I actually enjoyed it very much, and thought the acting and production value was really good. That said, yeah I know it's pure fiction (perhaps even alternate history? :D) whereas Johnson is made out to...

Not counting Josie, in which the new HD masters are already available on iTunes, I'm in for six of the seven movies. You can probably guess which one I'm passing on as it stands out like a sore thumb. :D

I’m happy with this round of announcements! No ”but what about x title?” comments from me!

I think you may have read too much into that comment, Mike. What Mr. Feltenstein actually said was that Warner’s contract with the Goldwyn estate would include Porgy and Bess should the legal issues ever get worked out. He didn’t say there was any progress on that front.

Since I’m looking forward to watching Christmas movies, I’m going to have to not wait for sales and just pay full price for Holiday Affair, It Happened on 5th Avenue, and The Shop Around the Corner.

Josie and the Pussycats had already got the HD masters uploaded to iTunes several weeks back, so this Blu-ray isn't a total surprise.

I think Opposite Sex will at least be November. They said in the last podcast that it was a computer glitch that announced a preorder prematurely and it would be a few more cycles before it would be ready.

All you guys piling on to disparage Tennessee Johnson, only makes me want to see it more! It can't possibly be that bad.

Yep, WAC podcast gave a hint that a color Greer Garson movie would be coming soon to Blu-ray, so I guess Sunrise at Campobello is it!

    Warner Archive Announcements Thread

I don’t know if any clip-substitution has been done on That’s Dancing, but through the years Warner has done a lot of clip-substitution on That’s Entertainment 1 & 2, as the 1970s clips didn’t hold up to the more recent restorations of many of the classics such as Wizard of Oz and Singin’ in the...

Interesting new WAC podcast. They answer the question about what the holdup is with Raintree County. Apparently it is in the same boat as The Alamo. The roadshow trims were discarded by the studio and while they have the original elements of the shorter theatrical cut and could restore that...

If they are going to be so generous to let their precious new masters onto HBOMax, then there’s absolutely no reason not to let them onto all the other streaming platforms because the Blu-ray “exclusive” argument is shot. :P

    Warner Archive Announcements Thread

While I don’t have concrete evidence (as in WAC Blu-rays to compare with) it does appear that HBOMax may be using some of the Archive Blu-ray masters. A Patch of Blue, Cimarron, Romance on the High Seas, and Stike Up the Band appear to be fresh masters. Klute looks like it may be the Criterion...

I wouldn’t assume the Tex Avery disc is going to be a February release. Unlike formal announcements which are usually the next month’s releases, these rare tease videos can sometimes be upcoming releases that are much further out.

You're kidding right? WAC Blu-ray transfers are hardly EVER shown on TCM. Every time Seven Brides for Seven Brothers runs it is the ugly old HD version.

Define "classic". The latest batch of announcements has at least two "classics" by my definition.

I agree. Warner Archive has been putting out so much “good stuff” recently that I will be going hog wild during upcoming 4 for 44 sales.

I could be wrong, but I believe that Warner only holds the rights the MGM American release which is the shorter English dub.
