Why I Own So Many Movies.

I program Theme Weeks (or longer). I call them Fests. For instance I might have a Bette Davis fest, or Alfred Hitchcock, or early gangster movies, etc. With streaming it's harder to organise such events.

Why I Own So Many Movies.

As my already large collection of Blu-rays grows, my collection of superseded DVDs also grows. I currently have a pile of DVDs to dispose of. I’ve tried second-hand shops, ebay and the web-based Gumtree – no results! I’ve offered them to friends and family – no-one wants them. The younger...

Why I Own So Many Movies.

Although I watch a lot of free-to-air movies (which I record on my PVR to skip the ads) plus a few streaming, I'm still buying Blu-rays. For one thing, picture quality is almost always better, plus I can watch them at leisure. If I buy a disc that's a bummer, I don't worry about waste of money...

Why I Own So Many Movies.

I agree that HDR is over touted. For instance, I prefer the standard Blu of Pirates of the Caribbean V over the HDR 4K version which over-does HDR. Before I watch a movie I always adjust Brightness, Contrast and Colour to get the best result. (Disc to disc often vary in these parameters.) My...

Re HD catching on. I invested in a 4K player and some 4K discs. My TV is a 55inch Panasonic OLED. Unless I sit 4 feet from the screen I can't see the difference between 4K and HD. I'm thus not buying any more 4k discs. Trouble with a super large screen TV is that standard DVDs look awful.

Why I Own So Many Movies.

I’m also concerned about the future of hard media. With the sales of DVDs and Blu-rays falling rapidly due to streaming, and the limited take-up of 4K discs, it may not be long before the availability of material on these media will drop to nearly nothing. I have hundreds of DVDs of dubious...

Why I Own So Many Movies.

I thought I was pretty unique in having a collection of around 1000 movies on DVD and Blu-ray but at least, reading the posts, I can’t be all that mad (unless everyone else is, too!). Sadly, very few of my friends can appreciate my collecting mania. My tastes are largely classics and vintage...
