As long as we brought up western-musicals, I'd like to mention another little category that I'm always a sucker for... films that utilized a 'dude ranch' as a backdrop. Often for musicals, comedies, or even a few mysteries. Here are a few examples I can think of that I recall liking:

"Wolf Song" (1929) is supposed to be extant, although it's rather impossible to see. I'd like to see it myself. I've seen the two earlier, more modest Gary Cooper westerns, "Nevada" (1927) and "The Last Outlaw" (1927). The other one from that year is supposed to be entirely lost, "Arizona...
Eh, I knew I typed up my list too fast. Just noticed I mixed up the title on that great 1931 Buck Jones western, which is "DESERT VENGEANCE," not "Border Vengeance." Seems too late for me to edit it. Sure would love a good print of that one, with its gritty atmosphere, its 'real' ghost-town...
I think I've done a list like this before. I'm up for just about any vintage western, although my list would also lean heavily towards a lot of b-series, including some examples that are often neglected little gems. Items which also would be in desperate need of an upgrade, if elements allow...
