Personally for her work I’d wait till the spring 2022 event at this point whenever that is. If you can tough out 3ish months it might be wise to do the upgrade to m2 line. And I’d do a Genius Bar visit in the short term because something seems wrong with your unit that isn’t meshing with...

The software and infrastructure is the blocker now on gaming, not the hardware.

Yep. My tolerance for slow compute is completely wiped out. My parents will sit and wait 10 minutes for a computer to boot. I’d die.

That just means she’s not stressing the machine as much as she thought she was. The M1 is a beast but only if you need it for beastly tasks. Whatdya mean this isn’t a gaming laptop???

Daniel also posted the solution for Migration Assistant woes: go into the startup mode and upgrade the OS on the new max before you begin migration. And make sure you are using a thunderbolt cable not a usb one by accident

Listening to Grubers podcast he had on Daniel Jaikut who just got the 14” and is really smitten with the “It just works” of the LG ultra fine monitors. He paired the 14” with the 24”. That seems like a really terrific combo and while $700 isn’t cheap, jumping up to $1300 for the 27” is a lot to...

Btw I was fully planning on skipping Apple Care. Then last night one of my cats got shooed away trying to gnaw on the corner of the screen. Apple Care ordered

Yeah, I know, Ron and I being advocates for the iPad Pro as on the go computers and then both going back to laptops seems hypocritical. I think I've been pretty clear tho: for me the iPad Pro is a light duty but full featured content creation machine. It can't play Diablo or do Lightroom...

Yep, it will be interesting to see if I still want to go back to an iMac after this MBP. I did my first Lightroom edits tonight, using the Sandisk 4tb drive. It might not be getting all the expected bandwidth but it is 3x as fast as my Thunderbolt GDrive hard disk. I edited about a hundred pics...

My iMac formatted the Sandisk 4tb SSD in 3 seconds. The issue must be Monterey or the MBP itself: It's not super fast tho:

My desktop 8tb hd is halfway full. It contains my entire archive of digital photography back to Canon 20d and every video I have shot for 15 years and the file size increases are accelerating. I can manage with multiple external SSDs but putting them in the archive is a pain. I’d prefer to have...

Missed this: 4) A quick press of the Touch ID button at the top right right instantaneously locks the screen. Another press unlocks it. Really quick and easy.

The tech at Christiana busted open a LaCie Pro SSD and we connected it to my MacBook Pro and it registered 2700 so it looks like the Sandisk is the issue. I’ve requested an RMA on the drive from B&H but threw out the box for it, so they may refuse. We will see. If I go for an OWC 4tb SSD that’s...
