Love the new FRANCIS THE TALKING MULE COLLECTION. I'd forgotten how charming some of these films were and love Donald O'Connor in anything. Ordered directly from Kino....can't beat the price.
Does anyone have the FRANCIS collection yet? I was only able to order it today using PayPal since Kino doesn't allow that type of payment for preorders. How many discs and how do they look? Thanks!
**nevermind...just read the Harris review**
Finally viewed THE SPIDER WOMAN STRIKES BACK (1946). Read a review somewhere that this looked soft....I really didn't think so at all. It does have some dirt/marks, but I wouldn't expect any type of restoration for this cheap 59 minute B-feature. Nice to actually see a studio print instead of...
I've been excited with the number of silent films Kino Lorber have been releasing on their Studio Classics line of late, mostly from the Paramount Library. Two W.C. Fields titles (IT'S THE OLD ARMY GAME, RUNNING WILD), 3 Gloria Swanson titles (ZAZA, MANHANDLED, and STAGE STRUCK; the latter with...
This may irritate Mr. Lime further....but Nitrateville's site banner today features Charles Middleton in his role from DAREDEVILS OF THE RED CIRCLE celebrating his birth date (03 May)!
Edit:
Others have corrected me regarding the birth date....it's actually 03 October!
The DAREDEVILS OF THE RED CIRCLE blu ray is absolutely gorgeous. Great job from Kino and Paramount!
.....although I did have to correct Kino's selling Charles Middleton short by scrawling his name on the front cover with a Sharpie! (Just a joke, Mr. Lime!)
Personally, Kino has become the #1 label for me of late.....about 80% of my ordered titles. This has a lot to do with what titles I'm interested in, which obviously correlate to what they're choosing to offer. Now, with more of the major studios involved (Fox, Paramount), I'm sure the scales...
Just got CHANDU THE MAGICIAN in on blu-ray....looks great, especially considering its vintage. It has reversible cover art, one side with the Fox DVD release artwork and the other with vintage artwork (?poster detail). All extras from the Fox DVD ported over. Great work Kino Lorber!
