The only one I'd be interested in is the third one and only if it was in 3D as it was filmed. The film for me is pretty worthless, but the 3D effects are grand, among the best of the Silver Age of 3D.
One of my least favorite early assignments as a reviewer here was to review the Paramount DVD...
In the middle of the series we get three near classics: The Scarlet Claw, The House of Fear, and The Pearl of Death. These are the ones I return to most frequently. I also like Terror by Night because I like mysteries set on trains.
All of you were right about the sale having loads of Criterions. Unfortunately, I have most of them on disc and won't spring for the digital versions, but I was hoping against hope that an HD Summertime would be part of the sale, but unless I missed it, no go.
Yeah, I learned the hard way with My Sister Eileen. I thought I could save some money by getting the digital rather than the much more expensive Twilight Time Blu-ray, but the iTunes was framed at 1.78 instead of in Cinemascope. I ended up buying the Twilight Time during a sale.
Going through the sales on iTunes and Vudu, I noted the repetition of titles with around the same "sale" prices and almost nothing from the early eras of filmmaking. The only thing I bought was 49th Parallel, a Criterion title they haven't gotten around to offering in HD on disc.
I was watching the 1989 Batman on iTunes on the Apple TV 4K a couple of nights ago and about 90 minutes in, the picture froze and then started stuttering ahead a frame or two at a time. Waited a bit and it didn't get right. I switched over the Firestick 4K and finished the movie on Movies...
Yep, I think that's when she first attained true knockout visual power although a shot of her sitting with Robert Stack at the end of A Date with Judy also reveals an Elizabeth right on the cusp of being ravishing.
I've been watching one two-part episode each evening. I don't want to fly through them and I want to enjoy the beautiful color and over-the-top performances. When I get to season three with the single episodes, I'll just do one a night.
