Plus Green Dolphin Street not so long ago. In her autobiography, Esther Williams tells that it was watching Ziegfeld Girl that persuaded her to take MGM's entreaties more seriously. I'll be buying all three of these discs.

Yes, the Clark Gable/Lana Turner teaming is one of the great star combinations but is not as recognized or celebrated as several others. They really worked well together and off each other.

How does that explain the exceptionally high quality of Blu-ray discs like The Private Lives of Elizabeth And Essex, Ivanhoe, The Naked Spur, Good News etc. etc.? Were pristine elements just lying around, waiting? I think it's more likely that the Warner organization decides to produce a very...

If generating new 4k transfers of those films which look awful on Blu-ray discs, e.g. Rio Bravo, just muddies the waters, lets muddy the waters as much as possible! I'm sure people who are or were offended by the Blu-ray iterations of Gigi, The Music Man, The Wild Bunch, Anchors Aweigh etc. etc...

I did misinterpret your "never released" description which changes things to some extent. However you began by stating that you've given up on Warner Archive, an extreme response which still surprises me. I'm also surprised to learn that upgrading from DVD to Warner Archive Blu-ray discs holds...

I'm surprised you posted this. Month after month Warner Archive have been releasing superb Blu-ray discs from the "Golden Age" and the reception from fans has been very favorable. That the only titles announced so far for April do not make our hearts beat faster does not mean that all is lost...

Thomas, thank you for referring to him as Mr. Strohmaier. I feel he deserves that elementary courtesy.

When I saw Julius Caesar a long, long time ago, the print was tinted. I'd love a Blu-ray disc that replicated that look.

It's well worth watching. No-one's mentioned it so far, but the eponymous Sheila, seen only in the opening sequence, is played by Yvonne Romain. I very much hope, and pretty well expect, that the splendid audio commentary provided on the DVD-R will be on the Blu-ray disc too.

Really? I can't stand Anne Revere and I've never met anyone who liked her. It's interesting to discover there are people who hold her in high regard. You learn something every day. I'm going to buy every one of these discs. I'm pleased about all of them, especially Party Girl with the fabulous...

You should watch her playing a nasty, calculating woman opposite Cary Grant and Carole Lombard in In Name Only. She does it very well.

The Charge is Murder, more properly Twilight Of Honor , is another Warner movie I'd love them to release on Blu-ray disc. The current DVD-R's presentation of the film is far too dark.

I don't have that particular DVD-R but yes, some of the Warner Archive DVDs are really appalling, which is why I have no difficulty accepting that it would cost fortunes to make certain films suitable for high definition. (There's scope here for a new comedy thread: which is the worst WA DVD-R...

I'm going to buy them. By the way, Randy Korstick is right about Objective Burma. It's not obscure. It's a well-known film.

So will I. It's not typical Mankiewicz by any stretch of the imagination - Barbara Rhoades has a nude scene - but I enjoyed the film the one time I saw it.

I wonder if Warners will ever give The Last Run their special treatment. The DVD isn't good enough.

Very promising! I'd buy the lot on Blu-ray disc. If They Won't Believe Me gets a release, Warner Archive will probably provide the complete version as they usually go the extra mile.

Yes, I heard that too. It was reported at the time that James Mason, normally a man of great politeness and discretion, said that she was the most unprofessional person he had ever worked with.
