Will do. In this thread or a separate thread? I expect you mean a separate thread, which is what I’ll do this evening tomorrow. I’ll compile all the options and what they do.

Why buy one when you can have two at twice the price?

...and a 3 pack of 3 footers is only $17, while a 3 pack of 6 footers is only $25. That's how I bought them.

I realize that going forward I need to expand my explanation of this frequently asked question. Despite changes since the first ATV 4K was introduced, I still believe that the configuration we've been suggesting will be the preference for most people. Still, my goal is to educate people on how...

Yes, IF you also set it to match dynamic range. FWIW, I never have blackouts while playing material. That sounds like a handshake issue.

You do have a point. When the ATV 4K was first released, the menus and screen savers looked like crap in HDR, and since virtually all content was SDR it was constantly switching back and forth, which gets really annoying. The screen savers and Apple's menu might be updated for HDR, but what...

The output setting sets output of EVERYTHING, including menus, even if the source isn’t DV for example. So you set it to 4K SDR. Then you set Match Dynamic Range to On, which makes it change to HDR or DV when the source is in that format. It makes sense, once you understand the poor descriptions.

I'm doubly stupid because it turns out I was thinking this was a different thread where it was discussed a week or two ago.

How many times does this have to be explained? Look back 10-15 posts and I have repeatedly explained… in… great… detail… how it works. (Note to self. Don't post when you're stressed out and pissed off, which is pretty much how I always feel lately.)

The TV should have a different calibration for apps, just like for each hdmi input as well as the internal tuner.

I didn’t see any mention of it in this thread.

A big thing a lot of people have been waiting for seems to have slipped through the cracks, unless I missed it somewhere. Just today I noticed Hulu has content in 5.1 on the ATV. In addition, it has original content like The Handmaid's Tale and Little Fires Everywhere in 4K. The Sunday news...

Yep, I started setting that to "Never" back with the Gen 2 model. Caused nothing but problems.

FWIW, I never set to receive automatic updates. Not on anything. I have it notify me when there's an update, but I always install them manually when I know there are no bugs.

I wish they'd bring back an optical output, but I know that'll never happen.

Maybe they can make the configuration more convoluted.

For non-gamers, I just don’t see anything that would have a real benefit. They’ll probably come up with something.

Be aware that it probably also changed Chroma to 4:2:2 when you changed things back.

OK, maybe it's fitting to clarify what these settings actually do. There is the video setting, which Mark and I are both recommending be set to 4K 60Hz SDR. That is the "default" output for menus and such. The "Enable Dolby Vision" setting shouldn't even be there, because it is no different...

Well, Mark and I are recommending the same settings. I just mentioned a couple extra ones.

I went around in circles on those damn settings when I got a 4K monitor, and now I have two, both with ATV 4Ks. These are the video settings, like Mark said. 4K SDR Match Frame Rate & Range, if your monitor is 120Hz or higher. Do NOT enable DV. The Match Range will activate it when it’s...

That’s the stupid thing. Matching the range enables DV when it’s present. No, it doesn’t make sense, but that’s how it works.

The 4K ATV has some weird settings. If you turn on Enable Dolby Vision, it uses DV for the menus. I do not enable DV For that reason. Instead I set Match Content to Range & Frame Rate, because my TV can reproduce 24fps for frame rate. That way, the output is only HDR for program material...

Regarding Prime, my ATV 4Ks seem to be functioning fine and I'm getting HDR on S3 of Mrs. Maisel.
