Can't wait to see King Kong myself. Hopefully Universal will join Blu-Ray eventually for there to be an Blu Ray HD version. Has anyone else been following the HD DVD/Blu Ray war? HD DVD was supposed to be out this month in Japan, but has been delayed since AACS licensing is not ready...
Rumor has it the new Infocus line up of projectors will support some kind of wireless video. It'd be interesting to see how this will work out. Good enough to save a lot of headaches for people I hope.
A projector with a 29" throw for a 60" diagonal image puts it close to rptv territory. Those new LED DLP mini projectors can throw a 50" image with a short throw. If they could put in the 1280x720 chips in them and put them in a box, they may have something....
Those new D5 lcds sound like great performers. Though, if I was ever to upgrade to LCD, I'd wait until next year when the inorganic layer/C2 Fine technology is applied to the panels.
I won't be able to make the movie night. Maybe next time. I remember at the previous movie night at Jonathan's, a few of the people there said they haven't seen Last Samurai. I can get my hands on it in HD for those interested in watching it for a movie night.
Yeah, I notice the signs on I35 saying they were going to close some lanes, luckily I live off of Mopac so I took 1325 all the way home. Leroy, Does your projector have a mode that would just ignore the clear segment? I believe the x1 had a presentation mode where it would use the clear...
A recap of last night.
When I saw Jonathan's crt, my mouth dropped, that thing was a monster. I guess I'm too spoiled by my 8lbs projector when compared to that 170lbs beast. I think I got an idea now why people have begun to jump from crt to digital projection displays. :) Content on the CRT...
Jonathan, I work until 6:30-7, if your movie night is some time after that then I'd be happy to bring it over. If not, I can bring it over some other time. I've been getting quite a few movies in HD lately and I could probably bring them over too. Supposedly a pixel mapped htpc and...
Having to change discs is a minor set back, though it will impress the guests/kids :). I think some people say they actually have a 2nd dvd player and program a macro with their remote that will switch players and inputs and etc...
What do you guys think of these custom intros for your theater?
http://www.customintros.com/
Seems pretty cool. Might order one someday, I'm waiting to see if they have any other new intros planned.
Thanks Nils, I thought that may have been the case. They use to pass out tickets all the time at UT, and I've been able to attend a few of those showings along with a test screening for Once Upon a Time in Mexico. I'll see if I can make it depending on my work schedule.
Ong Bak is great. It was playing at the Alamo Drafthouse and other theaters around town. The "International Cut" is supposed to be better with better editing, better music, and better sound effects. I got this movie when it first came out, getting the thai dvd in PAL with no subtitles and it was...
Old Boy is great. Really interesting and engaging story. I buy all my korean dvds straight from www.mrkwang.com. He supplies many of the asian movie buffs I know and is pretty popular in the asian movie forums and you're buying directly from Korea. HTH.
I've been meaning to catch Twilight Samurai. I'm gonna have to skip the R1 release though, non anamorphic widescreen, burned in subs, and dolby 2.0 isn't going to cut it for me.
I thought the Village was decent. I'll probably pick it up one day when its in Best Buy's or CC's buy 2 for $20 or 3 for $20 deals. I like M. Night, enjoyed most of his movies. I think he's a great storyteller and it shows in The Village. I loved Amelie. They just cast Audrey Tautou to be in...
I just got this in today.
House of Flying Daggers
Picture is great, sound is great. There's a great scene with a lot of bass and had great use of surround effects. Lots of good action.
It was probably here in one of the atx threads that I heard about mirus (or maybe avs). I hope to check out everyone's ht setup sooner or later, but at the same time, I'm also afraid to listen to other speakers b/c I know my speaker set up (found at big chain retailers) wouldn't hold a candle to...
I've only been to Round Rock like once, but I believe Tweeter is open and its off of I-35.
I got this map from the Tweeter website.

Sorry, I haven't had a chance to really check out most of the Austin HT stores. :)
I think I tried going to Austin Home Theater once but during that day it was by appointment only.
I heard about the Austin based speaker brand, Mirus Audio, do they have a showroom of some sort around here?
MoG, you just missed a powerbuy going on in this Austin group for the Panasonic AE700 (which I'm glad I didn't get in on, my Infocus 4805 is working just great). That new sony hs51 and black screen does look nice, but if I was upgrading at this point, I'd probably look into the 720p DLPs coming...
I thought I would be done with my dvd shopping after the great releases in the past 2 months but I just found out more dvds I want are coming out soon like the Leon 2 disc SE and 5th Element 2 disc SE (both next week) and then there's the Heat 2 disc SE in Feb. I'm over here fretting over...
Hey guys, I'm wondering what kind of HT setup everyone has. I'll start off with mine. My bedroom is my theatre. I live in a townhouse with some friends. The room is a 15'x15' room with a bed/futon. I'm running a table mounted Infocus 4805 DLP onto a 92" Da-Lite pulldown screen. My...
I was pleasantly surprised about how good American Splendor when I saw it a few months back. I only knew that it was a comic book movie coming into it, so it wasn't what I expected, but it was great.
I was deciding whether or not to pick up the Pirates dvd. Kinda sucks that I already have the first release of it and wasn't sure if the 3rd disc is worth it. The Robin Hood set is somewhere on my "To Buy" list. DeepDiscountDVD.com is having a 20% off all dvds this week until the 20th. I've...
