Josh's Blind Buys: Watching The Unseen Collection

I have the previous 4 movie set with 5th Avenue, which I usually watch this time of year. (It also has Christmas in Ct, Shop Around the Corner and the Owen Christmas Carol). I tried watching it last nite and the movie stops playing about halfway through; I assume it's the old problem of DVD...

The Definitive A CHRISTMAS CAROL (1951): Starring Alastair Sim

I saw it was coming on (after watching Shop Around the Corner) but I purposely didn't watch it; too early in the Christmas season. I guess I'll have to watch my Blu-ray copy (2011 release) in a few weeks.

What's the last TV DVD/Blu-ray you bought?

Seasons 1-5 of Donna Reed. Apparently those are the only ones available, and only on DVD.

I always wonder why they have to go out to Denny's after that. They had already cooked the rolls and sweet potatoes.

It says Colin Fleming is writing a book on this film. I expect it to be released before a UHD version.

According to IMDB, the boy sent to buy the prize turkey (David Hannaford) is alive. (David Hannaford plays the boy, not the turkey.)

I just watched the movie and noticed this for the first time. I guess I've always watched it in mono before. (The scene where he surprises Fred and his guests.)

What's on your Daily Viewing List?

I've also been in Christmas-movie mode the last few weeks. Last night was "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation." Leaning towards "Holiday Inn" tonite. Or perhaps an alternate version of "The Christmas Carol" (saving the main one - Alistair Sim - for closer to Christmas).

Press Release PHE Press Release: It's A Wonderful LIfe (4K/UHD) Digital Only?

OK, here's a dumb question: how will one buy this digital-only release? The only such thing I've ever bought is from Amazon Prime. Will this one be available that way? Earlier in this thread someone posted that if you already own the movie it will be upgraded for free. Does that mean if...

Don't know where to post this...AMAZON PRIME is going up 20% this year!

The end of last year was the first time I joined, since we needed quick delivery on something that would otherwise have cost over $20. Most of the time I'm not in a rush to get my order and it's not a problem to order enough to get free shipping. There have been only a few times I haven't opted...

The Definitive A CHRISTMAS CAROL (1951): Starring Alastair Sim

I'm not as bothered by the missing line as I am by some of the annoying screen jumps early on in the film. Supposedly this doesn't occur on all displays but it's happened with mine, both previous and current TVs.

White Christmas (Diamond Anniversary Blu-ray) Available for Preorder

I have an earlier Blu-ray version than this one (different cover with a slip-cover) and his hair has a bluish tint from the back. Not as blue as it looked on TV (TCM or AMC?) a few years ago. I have no idea what source they were using.

Blu-ray Review Holiday Inn: 75th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray Review

I recall watching this a few years ago and my wife, who had never seen it before (neither had I) happened to walk in the living room during that scene. It made her resemble that jaw-dropping emoticon.

Also, there was an Albert Finney musical version, which I didn't like at all, but some people love. So I figured I'd point that out as well.

Press Release TCFHE Press Release: Home Alone 2 -and- Miracle on 34th Street ( Blu-ray)

It's $9.33 (maybe just) today at Amazon if anybody was planning on getting this. I already have the previous BD release which I guess is the same as this one. The made-for-TV version was on an earlier (DVD) reissue but was so bad I turned it off after 15 minutes.

PHE Press Release: It's A Wonderful Life 70th Anniversary Platinum Edition (Blu-ray)

I've always thought this disc looked fine (in my very un-expert opinion, of course). On the other hand, I recall the version of the 1951 Alastair Sim version, which I believe was released around the same time, got good reviews here. Even though, in that case, the disc has a problem with lots of...

The Definitive A CHRISTMAS CAROL (1951): Starring Alastair Sim

Good review. I know what you mean about seeing Sim as being Scrooge, rather than as an actor portraying him. The latter is also how I felt about Scott and Stewart; they both did a good job but I never forgot that I was watching Scott or Stewart, rather than Scrooge. And I also think the fact...

Also he doesn't make amends with the guy who, at the beginning of the movie, told him he couldn't repay his debt on time. I don't know if he does this in any other version (or in the book) but in the Stewart version, the debtor is happy to be relieved of his debt when Scrooge dies (in the...

That's on my viewing agenda for tonight. I don't usually wait for Christmas Eve to watch it but I guess I was busy watching lots of other Christmas movies the last 3 or 4 weeks (including the Patrick Stewart version and a couple of partial viewings of the George Scott version on AMC).

The Definitive A CHRISTMAS CAROL (1951): Starring Alastair Sim

I thought Stewart did a good job, though he didn't look like Scrooge. I was always aware that I was watching Stewart play Scrooge, rather than watching Scrooge. (I had the same reaction to George Scott's Scrooge.) This version seemed patterned after the Sim version in what they showed and...
