Official STAR WARS Saga (episodes I to VII) Discussion Thread: Part 5

Thoroughly loved the revisit. Hadn’t seen Empire in a few years. Beautiful film. I was especially enchanted by the Yoda scenes this time. The puppet is so expressive, his dialogue is so crisp and meaningful, and the early playful Yoda is mischievous as heck. The whole film is magnificent...

Official STAR WARS Saga (episodes I to VII) Discussion Thread: Part 5

We’e been planning to watch Empire tonight for the past few weeks. Star Wars (1977) itself brought energy and the characters, setting the stage for what the universe would become. ESB brought the pathos and thematic scope. Empire remains one of the best fantasy films ever made, building...

Official STAR WARS Saga (episodes I to VII) Discussion Thread: Part 5

I’ll malign the heck out of AOTC while agreeing that Across The Stars is a great piece of music, and further agreeing that John Williams delivered 9 wonderful scores, varying from very good at the bottom to numerous iconic classics.

Official STAR WARS Saga (episodes I to VII) Discussion Thread: Part 5

Today marks the 15th Anniversary of Revenge of the Sith AND the 21st Anniversary of The Phantom Menace. TPM can finally drink in the U.S.! I’m not the biggest PT fan, although these are the two tolerable entries. I have a soft spot for both, each for different reasons (sadly, no such soft...

    Indiana Jones 5 (2022)

I’m much more interested in Spielberg the director than Spielberg the producer.

    Indiana Jones 5 (2022)

Some brief opinions about this possible film. Crystal Skull was the worst directed Spielberg film I’ve seen in my life. Ford was game, but the story wasn’t compelling, alongside the poor, poor direction. I really loved Logan. Spectacular film. I also really appreciated Ford vs. Ferrari. I...

Which is the best Harry Potter movie?

I’d also say Prisoner. The Columbus films were exceedingly well cast, but Cuaron established a much needed maturation of the sets and filmmaking. The young actors started to get good, and the array of adult actors in PoA was amazing. And the direction was phenomenal.

    Pocahontas (1995)

Hellfire remains an absolute all-timer song for me, and Hunchback gets a lot more serious than most Disney films. The 90s were an exceptional decade for the animation studio. My ”scores” would drop dramatically starting with their 2000 films.

    Pocahontas (1995)

Rankings and Ratings, bread and butter. I figured I would share. 1989 - 1999 Disney Renaissance films: Mermaid ....... A+ Beast ............. A+ Aladdin ......... A+ That's the "holy" trinity of the Renaissance, and well deserved. Lion King ...... A- (I loved this upon first viewing, but have...

    Official 2020 Oscar Nominations Thread

I can’t speak to how the VFX joke landed as I didn’t watch the ceremony, but I imagine the VES is addressing a larger issue. And it’s one I agree with. The Oscars itself often treats the technical categories as a ghetto during the ceremony, which is literally the only time during the calendar...

Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness (2021)

I’m less on the Marvel train than I used to be. After a strong 2018, I felt 2019 was their weakest year since 2010 (Iron Man 2). They had three films, two of which are cellar dwellers among the MCU. And the third was Endgame, which was a noticeable step down from Infinity War for me. Felt...

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Discussion Thread (SPOILERS!)

I didn’t hate it. But I certainly didn’t like it. I don’t want to rain on anybody who did like it. At least I thoroughly enjoyed 1-2-3 and 7-8 of The Mandalorian, so my SW needs are doing alright.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Discussion Thread (SPOILERS!)

Having been incredibly quiet of late, I realized that I had not shared my thoughts on The Rise of Skywalker. Considering how much I've enjoyed fighting about Star Wars on HTF over the years, I figured I'd acknowledge the film. My mother taught me if you don't have anything nice to say, don't...

Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness (2021)

In my ignorance, I'm not certain why Sam Raimi hasn't directed a film since 2013's Oz. But he is an intriguing choice to direct Doctor Strange. I've continued to rant to anyone in earshot that the MCU owes an ENORMOUS debt to Raimi...his Spider-Man (2002) and Spider-Man 2 (2004) are the very...

    The Lion King (1994)

I need to rewatch this soon. I watched the 4K of Aladdin (1992) when it came out a few months back, and fell in love with it again. It’s a gratifying feeling to be watching a film you really like, and realize that it is better than you remember. I haven’t seen The Lion King in quite a few...

It didn’t. That one starts in 2016. We had a pre-release discussion and a release discussion thread list to time. I’m assuming it’s just gone, but wanted to ask just in case!

    *** Official AVATAR Discussion Thread

I hate resurrecting this ancient thread to ask what happened to the rest of this discussion. I was hoping to dig up some old posts from this discussion thread (which was about 7-8 pages long back in 2009-2010) when it was first utilized. No such luck. Anybody know what happened, and to how...

    Hellboy (2019)

Pretty depressing skimming the reviews. If they had at least been mediocre, I’d have gone for my deep love of the character and universe. But nothing I’m reading suggests that the film is even decent. I started collecting Hellboy back in 1994 when it premiered, solely for Mignola’s art. But...

    Avengers: ENDGAME (April 26, 2019) [NON-SPOILERS]

So I waited in that one hour virtual line. Once it got down to 20 minutes, it jumped up to 43 minutes. Then kept clicking down. Once it got from there into the single digits, it evolved again:

    Avengers: ENDGAME (April 26, 2019) [NON-SPOILERS]

I started with a 3 minute wait. Then 5. Now an hour. It won’t let me select seats, just gives a perpetual loading screen. Finally went directly to Regal Movies, picked a theater, picked a showtime without reserved seats, and processed through. What a pain in the ass. AMC and Fandango stink.
