Fox Cinema Archives Debuts 18 New Classic Films on DVD starting March 18!

Any idea why Fox doesn't mention in their press releases which of the DVDs are pan and scan? It would save us all a lot of time.

"A Star Is Born" Garland in 6k resolution

I guess it depends on if it is going to be a director's cut or not, because if it is, it shouldn't be in the film.

It's a great film, I'm glad it was released as a pressed DVD in Australia.

And the Born in a Trunk number is omitted, which was added to the film after Cukor finished it, and it wasn't even directed by Cukor.

    Criterion Blu-ray titles!

I'll probably get Walkabout, but I won't get rid of the DVD, because my copy is signed by David Gulpilil.

Any news on a Warner Chat this year?

I'm hopeful that WHV releases a box of 1950s 3D films late this year in 3D Blu-ray format. House of Wax, Dial M for Murder and Second Chance would be no brainers.

Any news on a Warner Chat this year?

I guess I'd mainly ask about Blu-rays - A Star is Born, East of Eden, Mutiny on the Bounty (1962), Raintree County. Oh, and some more films for the archive, Oregon Passage, The Tall Stranger, A Thunder of Drums, Underwater Warrior, Torpedo Run. I give up on Film Noir 5, someone else can ask...

Any news on a Warner Chat this year?

The chat could be purely about titles NOT asked about that Warner is preparing for release.

Any news on a Warner Chat this year?

I agree that this would be a much better way to do it. We could just construct a big list of titles, and then the Warner staff could look down the list and say if a title is likely to be released on a regular pressed discs, Warner Archive, or not at all. Doing in it that way they would probably...

    Warner Archive Discussion Thread (FEEDBACK)

It's possible that your DVD drive has just worn out and won't burnt read discs. I'd look at replacing it. You just need to work out if it uses SATA or IDE, and buy the same replacement drive.

Ah, I've already waited 2 days, but no reply so far. Give VLC Media Player a go. It's completely free: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ To play a DVD, just go File, Open Disc, then select the disc device that corresponds to your DVD drive. To make a screen capture, go to the Video menue, and...

Any more info about Violent Saturday? Any idea if it is OAR / 16:9?

    Warner Archive Discussion Thread (FEEDBACK)

That would work out to nearly double what I paid for the Warner Archive version. I was able to rip the disc, but it is all about principle, Warner said they would "stand by" these discs, so they should send a replacement.

    Warner Archive Discussion Thread (FEEDBACK)

Great, it happened. Today I received a badly scuffed disc from Warner Archive of Nicholas Ray's film Party Girl. It won't play in my Blu-ray player after the first 10 minutes, however, I was able to rip it even though it took over an hour. Now let's see, what are my chances of getting a...

Fox is still releasing a lot of classic in Spain, never released in USA

Thanks very much for the effort. Those captures look great, this is obviously a good preservation of the film that Fox just never bothered to release in R1. I'm going to have to get this soon. I think I'll wait and see if their release of Violent Saturday is any good. I think Impulso also...

    Universal Vault Series - Amazon.com exclusive DVD-Rs

Well, this is what Warner said about international sales from Warner Archive during the last chat: So why don't they just get the best existing element and do a new transfer without any digital restoration? That would produce a better looking transfer than using something 15 years old. That's...

I think you mean Barry Maxwell's column. A bunch of release dates were released by Warner France. Who knows if that relates to the U.S. date: http://www.thedigitalbits.com/articles/barriemaxwell/maxwell112509b.html
