    Rear Speaker Location...

You may want to leave out the 6th rear speaker and just use a 5.1 setup.

Unable to get 7.1 output from Denon 3806

Good post, homthtr. Thanks. Didn't mean to stray from the OP's questions and concerns.

Unable to get 7.1 output from Denon 3806

What I'm saying is that Denon gives you 2 sets (A+B) of surround outputs (I'm not referring to the surround back outputs) to allow the user the capability, if he so desires, to have 2 different sets of surround speakers in a 5.1 setup; one set for movies and one set for music. What sort of...

Unable to get 7.1 output from Denon 3806

That is also incorrect. As he said, his receiver has 10 speaker outputs. Denon provides 2 sets of surround outputs, A & B (B is not "surround back") so that a user can use 2 different sets of surround speakers, separately, if he so chooses; ie. a diffusing set of dipoles for movies and a set of...

Center channel - small or large

Huh? Please explain yourself. He said he has no subwoofer. If he has no sub, he sets his receiver up as having NO SUB. His fronts will default to LARGE. With the center set as SMALL, the receiver will redirect that center channel information which is below his crossover setting to the...

Center channel - small or large

Subwoofer or not, I'd run it as SMALL.

Experience with Blue Sky? Proprietary connectors?

Thanks, Alan. I couldn't rememeber the name of that thing for the life of me today when I posted those links to the cables. This device WILL convert unbalanced RCA to balanced XLR (if that's important to you). ARTcessories CleanBOX

Experience with Blue Sky? Proprietary connectors?

There ARE RCA to XLR connectors. This won't make for a balanced connection, though (which is probably unnecessary anyway). There are also devices that convert RCA to XLR (and vice versa). XLR male to RCA male XLR female to RCA male

OK, have a decent sub, what about new small main speakers

OK :) Wasn't jumping on ya. Just an FYI for everyone.

OK, have a decent sub, what about new small main speakers

The new HSU speakers ARE up at the HSU site. They sell them individually ($125/ea), so you could get 3 for the front soundstage.

What is the difference between front, bottom and rear firing ports on subwoofers?

OK, I'm not being clear. And perhaps I'm a little bit wrong. The port IS tuned to resonate at a particular frequency in (sort of) the same way that a bottle can produce a tone when you blow over it's opening. What I am addressing, though, is the fact that many people think that a port is...

How do you hook up your subs if it has 2 inputs?

Bad idea, but do what you wish. Why do you want to do that, anyway? Just make sure you set your receiver up as having NO SUB if you want the LFE channel info to be re-routed through your R+L pre-outs. And your subs' crossover settings will now become important and you'll need to ENABLE the...

What is the difference between front, bottom and rear firing ports on subwoofers?

Did you even read what you linked to? The purpose of a port is NOT "to produce sound to augment the output of the driver"! That's completely wrong.

What is the difference between front, bottom and rear firing ports on subwoofers?

Even though you may read that sound, theoretically, shouldn't come from the port of properly designed ported sub, I've never heard a ported sub that didn't have sound (not chuffing, actual sound) emanating from it's port. So, given that, you can see how the location of the port could make a...

Either should work fine for sub cabling. RG6 is slightly more shielded.

How do you hook up your subs if it has 2 inputs?

It's cleaner to just simply use a Y-splitter. The signal passed by the first sub in the chain may not be as clean.

How do you hook up your subs if it has 2 inputs?

pwangdel I answered your post about how to connect your RSW12 on another forum where you posted the same question. How to connect 2 subs is a different question, though. Don't daisy-chain the subs; use a Y-splitter.

It's going to depend upon which DACs sound better to the end-user; their player's or their receiver's.

I want a processor or receiver with pre-outs

Yeah, I looked it up after posting and found that it did have digital output capability, both optical and coax. So what he's really interested in then, regarding stereo playback from his player, is a pre/pro or receiver with good DACs, as well as multichannel inputs and pre-outs. He has a...

I want a processor or receiver with pre-outs

Does that CD player have digital output (coax or optical)? If it doesn't, you won't be using ANY processor's DACs to decode anything.
  24. ScottCHI

I want a processor or receiver with pre-outs

Well, there are many HT receivers and processors with both multichannel analog inputs and multichannel pre-outs. But aren't those new formats at least 8 channels (7.1)? 8 channel multichannel inputs AND pre-outs may be difficult to find. Regarding a "good analog stereo section", don't you...

None of the speakers' drivers or crossovers are blown, are they? Because a blown speaker can make a receiver shut down at higher levels like that, as well.
