General Discussion Is the "THIS" TV network copy-protected?

Thanks, I think I will try that if I ever have any interest in recording something from that channel again. It will require moving some equipment, though, which will be a pain. Normally I don't record movies from channels like "THIS" which shows commercials and speeds up the credits to cram them...

General Discussion Is the "THIS" TV network copy-protected?

Sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere, but I didn't get any search results for the topic... The other day, I tried to record a movie on the "THIS" tv network, via Comcast (the movie channel owned by MGM), and my Toshiba DVD recorder couldn't record it. I don't know that I've ever tried to...

Kelly Preston has died at 57!

So sad. I was absolutely shocked when I heard the news this morning. I liked her a lot in "Addicted To Love". In 1977 John Travolta lost his girlfriend Diana Hyland to breast cancer, as well. He must be totally devastated.

R&B singer Betty Wright dead at 66

KC alluded to the song "Miss B." in his tribute/post- a song he wrote for her and that was featured on The Sunshine Band's instrumental album "The Sound Of Sunshine":

R&B singer Betty Wright dead at 66

Best known for her 1971 hit "Clean Up Woman", she won a Grammy for Best R&B Song with "Where Is The Love" (not to be confused with the Roberta Flack song with the same name), co-written with her label-mate Harry "KC" Casey. RIP.

In the process of trying to trap this little girl and her twin sister-- if you know anyone who lives in Georgia who wants to adopt a sister pair, let me know! I have 5 rescues already and I don't think another 2 will go over very well!

Thanks for the info. I have another episode (just the audio) that was recorded from TV to a cassette tape.

Who owns the rights to Midnight Special now? Didn't Burt Sugarman sell them?

    shows that have been destroyed

Are all the daytime episodes of Hollywood Squares from 1979 gone? I guess a gameshow like Musical Chairs (which had the first African-American host) is likely a goner.

    Midnight Special

Did you ever find this performance? LOL. I know, it's been a while since you posted that. I've seen a couple old clips of Teri and KC on YouTube recently, but one of them is from American Bandstand and I'm not sure about the other: I would love to see ALL of the Midnight Special shows...

I need help identifying this 1976 TV variety show...

I knew it wasn't "Midnight Special" because I'm pretty familiar with the sets they used, but when I started checking out YouTube clips of 70s variety shows, "Dinah!" was fortunately the first one I looked at and it just happened to be it! Looks like they've taken down the Michael Jackson clip...

I think it's "Dinah!" Based on these two clips: Ok, thanks guys. Glad I could set everyone's minds at ease. Ya'll can go to bed now. -_-

I need help identifying this 1976 TV variety show...

I figured there is probably no better place to come than here for a crack team of TV experts who can identify which TV variety show this was. It's a photo of KC and the Sunshine Band circa 1976, and I'm wondering if anyone recognizes the distinctive curved pillars on the set? Thank you!

Abbey Road Super Deluxe September 27 2019

Some problems with the blu-ray (loading, freezing, etc.) are being reported. Anybody here having issues? That is truly awful! It sounds more like a rehearsal than an actual take. Abbey Road is my favorite Beatles album and "Oh! Darling" is one of my favorite songs, and I can honestly...

David Cassidy "The Bell Years 1972-1974" 4-CD boxed set due 9/27/2019

Yes, I remember hearing about that. He was really devastated by her death, though apparently the story of her being crushed to death wasn't true-- she had a preexisting heart condition and collapsed at the concert, but died in the hospital the next day.

David Cassidy "The Bell Years 1972-1974" 4-CD boxed set due 9/27/2019

Just so you know, this set doesn't have any Partridge Family material on it, these are just the solo Bell albums he did (separate from the 8 Partridge Family albums that were also recorded for the Bell label during that era). He also did 3 excellent albums for RCA in the mid-70s as well as a...

David Cassidy "The Bell Years 1972-1974" 4-CD boxed set due 9/27/2019

Yeah, he did a lot of re-records. I've always tried to avoid those and go with the original 70s recordings.

David Cassidy "The Bell Years 1972-1974" 4-CD boxed set due 9/27/2019

It's a good value for the money. I'll probably go for it. I've both good and bad things about Cherry Red, but I can't imagine they'd be any worse than the previous CD releases. I've heard that Rock Me Baby had never had a decent CD release.

    Smokey Robinson PROMO vinyl LP

They're called "gold stamp promos" and if in great condition, are usually a bit more collectable than the retail versions. Sometimes they also have a white label on the front listing the song titles and times for each song, for the DJ to reference- like this one...

    Led Zeppelin's "Physical Graffiti"

Yes, I remember when my uncle gave me his copy many years ago when I was in my early teens and expressed fascination in the cover (even though at the time I had no idea what the music sounded like). For that reason alone, I could never part with it.
