Pre-Order Tap Roots (1948) (Blu-ray) Available for Preorder

I misread the copyright date actually on the film itself and it is the correct one, 1948. Those Roman numerals!!!

Pre-Order Tap Roots (1948) (Blu-ray) Available for Preorder

What a strange release for TAP ROOTS is; from Kino. It seems to have been announced and shortly after, released on Blu ray with little fanfare. I noticed the copyright date on the sleeve said 1958, which I assumed was a misprint, but when viewing the film, the copyright was indeed listed as...

    Warner Archive Announcements Thread

Around Christmas time last year, there was a lot of talk about LIFE WITH FATHER coming to blu via the Warner Archives. Was this hopeful wishing, or does anyone know if it is in the works?

If you could present them in 4k, I'll buy them.

Inner Sanctum Mysteries Delayed Again !

I don't know the process of mastering these things, but I would assume what they get from Universal, they check for any anomalies. I am sure Shout has fans of these films working there in various capacities. PILLOW OF DEATH is so below the look of the other films, I would think someone would...

Inner Sanctum Mysteries Delayed Again !

I did a quick spotting of all the films. Disc One: Everything seems okay. "Calling Dr. Death" and "Weird Woman" may have newer transfers since the credits are not window boxed. "Dead Man’s Eyes" is an older transfer based only on the full screen credits. Disc Two: "The Frozen Ghost" has a...

    Warner Archive Announcements Thread

It sure does and looks Blu ray quality. It has a Columbia logo on it somewhere, so I assumed Columbia, which has most of the Capra films, added it to their library.

Kino-Lorber Insider Announcement Thread (Read Guidelines Post #3)

I believe USC did a restoration of Alias Nick Beal several months ago or even late last year. I would also love to have on blu Paramount's (Universal) 1944 The Unseen. It was promoted as sort of a companion film to The Uninvited, and is not as good, but creepy, great sets and photography and...

A Few Words About A few words about…™ An Act of Murder – in Blu-ray

I thought the blu ray is just okay. My biggest complaint is one reel having several vertical black lines and 1 white (scratches) on the right side that is extremely distracting and continues for the entire reel. I guess it's easier to get rid of reel change markings than continuous lines...

I think Butch and Buddy made it to blu ray in the Abbott and Costello set. (IN THE NAVY) Great seeing the Fields films coming out. I kinda wish they would have done sets...maybe the Paramount era and one for the Universal era. It will be expensive to buy them as singles and most of them are...

Kino-Lorber Insider Announcement Thread (Read Guidelines Post #3)

I hope one of the Durbin films might be the 1940 SPRING PARADE. I have an old copy from a television broadcast. I think there was a question of who actually owned the film and because that wasn't settled, Universal never released it on DVD. Perhaps the rights issue has been settled.

A Few Words About A few words about...™ Abbott & Costello: The Complete Universal Pictures Collection - in Blu-ray

Well, I had some time to sample some of Volume One. Yes, they are vastly improved over the DVD sets. Still disappointed that Universal didn't have proper materials for ONE NIGHT IN THE TROPICS. They got the Universal logo on it, but the first credit still has Universal Presents blotted out and...

A Few Words About A few words about...™ Abbott & Costello: The Complete Universal Pictures Collection - in Blu-ray

If there was a choice, I would certainly go for the best possible looking Main Feature. As far as the A & C set, I am sure they got what Universal gave them and went out of their way to include the extras. The ones I look forward to are the outtakes. I read that Lou Costello had outtakes from...

A Few Words About A few words about...™ Abbott & Costello: The Complete Universal Pictures Collection - in Blu-ray

Certainly in the DVD suitcase release, I thought IN THE NAVY was the worse looking of all the releases. Bad contrast, lack of sharpness, it looked like a dupe of a dupe of a dupe. I guess something happened to the negative that couldn't be fixed or the negative just went bad or was disposed of...

The Ultimate List of Mono to Stereo Remixed Soundtracks

Maybe I missed this being mentioned, but HOUSE OF WAX originally had a stereo soundtrack on a separate interlocked print, which is gone. Also, the same situation for CHARGE AT FEATHER RIVER. When this film plays on TCM it has a faux soundtrack. I think they had the surround on one of the film...

Well times the above by 158,400 (frames), and you get an idea of what an average length film would take to restore. I've heard that many of the Paramount films that were considered "safe" because they are now preserved on safety film have succumbed to vinegar syndrome. Have you seen the last DVD...

Shout Select Press Release: Abbott & Costello The Complete Universal Collection (Blu-ray)

I owned both the laser discs and that Suit-Case versions of all their films. I doubt if Universal is doing new scans on all these films, and probably did hi def versions when they did the last remastering. I feel fairly safe with all the promised extras and those who are involved, that the...

Shout Select Press Release: Abbott & Costello The Complete Universal Collection (Blu-ray)

I am happy for the full set of Universal Abbott and Costello films. If we had only a few sets of "the best" declining sales would probably stop the series dead. Too many times, in series films and TV series, once sales start to decrease, that's it. I never thought Bud and Lou would get all their...
