    To my longtime friends here....

Thanks everyone. A couple of the other artists must have incredibly large extended families. LOL

The painting is the one in this series that has the violet background.

    To my longtime friends here....

Hopefully there are some old timers that will remember me. Recently, the Hillsborough County (The county I live in) Arts Council sponsored a contest in which the winners would have their artwork displayed on billboards around the county. There were 124 entrants, and there were 7 spots...

    We lost Steve Tannehill

Joseph, no worries. Maybe a mod can clean the thread up since the confusion is resolved now?

    We lost Steve Tannehill

Steve will be sorely missed by the entire Home Theater online community. He was a pioneer and one of the very first peeps I met online. In the early days of HTF he was a driving force, and at HTT and HTL he was admired and liked by everyone. His love for The Beatles was well known. I am quite...

    How low can you go?

Yello "Touch Yello" Really good electronic music complete with frequency sweeps and low bass info. Most excellent music. They have been around for 30 years or more. Their claim to fame was the song "Oh Yeah" that was featured in several films...but they are much more than that.

My 8th Anniversary at the HTF

15 years (or more) for me now. I still read here, but seldom post. It is good to see all the "vintage" members that are still active here. Maybe, I will have a better look around and try to be helpful. Im not sure I can help out with the tech stuff anymore, but I can philosophize my ass off. :D

Anyone hear from Mike Knapp anymore?

To quote Monty Python and the Holy Grail... I'm not dead! :D Happy New Year everyone. It is good to see some of the old names still kicking around. The hobby has grown so much since the old days. "Remember when" is a great game to play. I have many fond memories of this place and the peeps here...

Another shot across the bow of AV wiring making a difference.

I might do that for a quick listening session, but for a really serious listening session I usually touch the wires for about 5 minutes prior to turning the lights off. :D Thanks for the laughs, I needed some today.! Have a great weekend. Mike

Another shot across the bow of AV wiring making a difference.

Hahaha, I will do some experimenting and get back to you. :) By the way... I never said they had to "see" the wires. ;) Mike

Another shot across the bow of AV wiring making a difference.

Hi guys, not interested in another cable war but.... My belief is that the placebo effect has a great influence in this matter. In fact, it even satisfies several scientific criteria, including the ability to be predicted and to be reproduced. If the argument were about whether wires have...

Hey, is this "our" Mike Knapp?

Not me (dont own a truck), nor my comment afterward. The guy that posted the story on that site, and the comment was not a Mike Knapp, just a guy from Tampa. There are plenty of us. A city Councilman, A drummer, a soccer player...we do it all. :) I will add that I have never seen lightning...

Darren Aronofsky's sci-fi epic "The Fountain" set to go

It is my belief that "Tom" is a continuum. It is the same spirit in all three stories simply reincarnated in a different but similar vessel. Through the act of greed (wishing to be immortal) during the times of the conquistidor that incarnation of Tom was slayed as he selfishly drank too much of...

Darren Aronofsky's sci-fi epic "The Fountain" set to go

Tony, I deleted most of the post for two reasons. First I had not yet published it on my own site and second, I felt that the subject may have been beaten to death. But since you did notice it, and were inspired enough to ask...here it is again in it's entirity. The Fountain…not for...

Darren Aronofsky's sci-fi epic "The Fountain" set to go

The Fountain…not for everyone. This film is not for everyone. If you want eye candy, it has some. If you want escapism, it has some. If you want to turn your mind off, this isn’t the film to do that with. It is a visual and metaphorical feast, but it will require attention and exploration to...

    Would you buy a turntable?

Yes you should. I also have a Grado Sonata that I was using until I got hold of the Adcom...the Grado's produce a very nice sound. Mike

    Anyone listening to vinyl?

Thanks for the link. I'll move along now. Mike

    Would you buy a turntable?

I have been into vinyl for some time...since I was a kid. :) I still buy LP's all the time, and often will buy an LP version of something I already have on SACD or redbook. There is a magic about the care and personal interaction with the playback device when using a turntable that simply is...

    Anyone listening to vinyl?

Just trying to get a feel for this space here. HTF is an old haunt of mine and I am searching to see where I might become more active. I am looking for discussions on 2 channel audio on all media, including vinyl. Any interest here in hi-end audio? Mike

    Farewell Mike Knapp and HTT

Thanks Cees, Tom, I cannot just walk away from it. It is too much a part of me. If it is there, I will be checking in and I wont be able to not participate in the administration. I have tried doing that before, several times. Closing it was the only way. I wish it wasn't but I know...

My 8th Anniversary at the HTF

Thanks to everyone. Ron, you are too generous, I just hopped on at the right time for the thrill ride! But I appreciate your comments. Someone pass the mustard, I need to use some toilet paper. Mike

My 8th Anniversary at the HTF

The toilet paper thread is a good indicator of how long you have been here. I started it and it took off like nobody's business. It was quite the funny thing back then. It lead to different soundfields in bathrooms, levels of bass and surround mixes. It was a hoot to be sure. But only the...

help: DVD in Black & White?

First make sure you are not watching Casablanca. ;) Second, this sounds like a component cable issue. One of the cables is not making contact. Try what Allan suggested and if that does not work try a new component cable. Good luck. Mike

    Newbie: Thoughts on this HT

Just to clarify... I have the Cary DVD7 and the Toshiba HD-A1 HD-DVD player. I also still use my legacy (code word for old school) :) display, a 65" Mitsubishi CRT display. The Mits will only accept component HD signal, no HDMI port. Now, The Toshiba does a good job with HD material...
